' So the delegates were Instructed to go for T. D. Perkins, jSsq., the present Register of Deeds first, last and all the time. The convention condemned the force bill. - " There being no other business, A. S. Aldrige was called apon to make a speech, which he did and made an old fashion Democratic speech. V B. L. UN'TED AMERICAN VETERANS A Patriotic Organization Formed to Tromote Peace. Washington, D. C, Sept. 2i An organization of soldiers who fought in both armies in the late war, called the order of United American Veterans, was formed tonight and officers elected. The declaration of principles states that twenty-five years of peace ought to have obliterated all animosities and prejudices engendered by the war : that "we believe that men who gave patriotic servi in response to duty (astbey saw their duty), deserve honorable consideuation of their countrymen. Charleston, W. Va., Sept. 24 About 4 o'clock this morning a bad wreck occurred on theKanawha and Michigan railway at sattes twelve miles from here. No one was hurt, but three locomotives were thrown irbm the track and piled up in a heap, one of them going over a sidetrack into a big stone quarry. A relief engine was sent out 1 ;:om Charleston. In going on the sid-track from the mainline this engine left the. switch open and soon a heavy-freight train came along. The night was 'foggy and the freight train dashed into the open switch before the engineer could see where he was going. He reversedathe lever and jumped with the other trainmen, but the engine ran intd the other two, and all were badly torn np. The loss will, be quite heavy. The strike will be for an advance in wages,' and will begin November 1st... In the Northern Districts an advance of 7 cents is asked. In the Southern Districts the advance - is . 10. cente... The miners then announced that they world work throughout the summer. .The operators, "have steadily .refased. the .advance, except those in the Northern D is tricts, who will concede if the Southern operators will also make the concession. As the;,, latter refuse to do so, however, a strike is certain. The Executive Board of the United Mine Workers has sanctioned the strike, and Mr. Mo Bryde goes est as its representa tive.
