POLITICS IS NORTH CAROLINA. This is what is called an off year in politics ; that is, there is no presidential canvass to excite interest and create enthasiasm. In the earlier days of tho lie public no election was so impor tant aa the presidential election. The Presidents was Jthe acciedited and actual head ot his party, and measures wereAintrodnced by his friends and sapjrters that accorded with his rxOiey. Now CJongress is the greatpoiref of the. nation. The Speaker of the House and the chairmtuLof .: the. committee of ways td means, have a prepon derating weight in national affairs. Look at the history of this country for the last ten months. Keed, and McKinley bate been everything Harrison nothing. This year Congressmen are to be elected in nearly every State in the Union ! The questions involved in this flection affect the personal interests oi every cititizen, and will have a potential influence in fixing the destiny of American institu tions. Our system of Government is on trial.' The elections this year must in a large measure determine Whether the Constitution ;shallre main the supreme law of the land or be bailed in the, wreck of the fathers,: . The force bill is aimed at the citadel of; liberty, and if that' . fortress falls all is lost. .North Carolina touBt do her part in this great emergency, f She most send a iolid Pemoexatie delegatiofl to Vashington-imen t f ho wui speak for the rights oi tne ataies and the liberties of he people.
