While it will not require a particular close observation to see around New Berne convincing evidences tbat the poople are in better cucumetanoes, and are gradually showing increased interest in progress, and improvement, on the other hand it is an undeniable fact, that we have lost several very valuable citizens in the past year or bo, who bare taken up thoir homes in other oitiet tbat have issued Bonds for Internal Improvements, and considerable cap! tal have gono out from New Barne for investment in those cities. Let ua make New Berne attractive and convenient to live in bo that we can retain our people and their capital Let us nave water-worka and a sew erage system, the sidewalks paved and the streots and roads leading into the city macadamized. It is economy to have these improvements. In looking over the prosperous cities of North Carolina we find Raleigh, Wilmington, Charlotte and others car rying a city bonded debt for internal improvements. We also find them greatly increasing in population and valuation. If the community think favorable of this subject, there ia no bettor time than the present to shape it up and start it.
