Tho suse cf Craven county vs. Pamli co county in regard to tbe debt of the two counties was beard before referee W. R. Terry, of Stella, sn enter prising Northern gentleman, who has large saw millj at that place and is in reality the founder of tbat prosperous little village, was in the city yesterday. He is a man of wide experience with a practical turn of mind and considerable discernment. In conversation v. ith him he gave us en expra ieion c; his views on the probable reeulta of the improvements that are being contem plated for the city. He holds tbe opinion that, if accomplished, they are sure to be promotive of the city's pros perity and tht securing them will be one of the beat moves ever made ia the place. We believe that iho best course for the city to pertue .it this time is to go forward and put ia thu improvements. January' SO, lbfJl. S Tho voyngo from NcwYo.k to Now Berne, N. (.'., at this season the yoar reminds your commis sioner rf a journey from Vera Cruz to the city cf Mexico, from C&liente to and through Templada. Here we arc Pamlico ecund, "a wido waetoof water," on the last day of January, with tho thermometor at So ', turnmer heat, a lovely moonlight night, and as balmy as tho Lako of Como in mid summer. Now with ell these glorious climatic advantages, w hat has "Bunnv Itnly to do with us I This morning in New Borne, the dny waa bo lovely and inviting thatCapt. T. M. Soutbgato proposed a rido behind pair of spanking bays through the truck farms in tho vicinity of "New Borne on the isouse. " It was a grand and glorious eight in contrast to that of grim viaaged war." Every field flowered undor tho hand of the tillers of the soil and presented a scene of 'verdure green," that would make a poet envy tha opportunity presented. All tho vegetables, early York cabbage pirticuarly is ready for its first cutting, with spinach enough, roady for market to snpply all Gotham. Asparagus was up and coming, and in loss than tivo weeks the enterprise of the New Berno truckers will be rewarded by quick sales and nandeome profits. The largest truck and stock farm combined near New Lerae ia that of Hackburn & Willstt, who are men of this moat indomitable enterprise, as is attested by their vim and energy. Po tatoes last year paid theta enormously, selling all tbey could send to tho Rich mond, Va , market, whoro they received from 50 oents to $5 more than in Now York markets. J. L. Rhem is the largest trucker in tho South, having yearly hundreds of acres in peas, early potatoes, and pot vegetables for which ho finds ready sale in the Northern markets, and which he claims beats tho Norfolk truckers by over two weeks. All these great trucking interests in North Carolina were built up by the energy and porseveranco of the Old Dominion line, in consequence cf tbe care and activity with wbich freight is handled, it being put into market from New Berne in forty-eight hours after picking, without danger of "laying over" at way stations. This fully shows the great advantage Of water routes for early markets. W. T. Urocsett, from Western Branch, near Norfolk, is also ono of tho most successful and popular truckers abcut New Berne, and bids fair to be a millionaire, if the demand for good truck is not Impaired by bad weather, or worse conjectures New Berno is the queen city of the sound. The people are alive to her ad vantages, acd are building up her waste places. Now tbat tbe oyBter pirates nave been driven from tne waters of the sounds, the planting interests .will be more ap preciated by tillers of the sou, ana no longer be at the mercy of heartless cor porations that want to make waste everywhere, just to get rioh in a season. Oyster properties cultivated and pro tected are for all time. Scout. Title All Right. CAPr. W. H. Buckun, Dear Sib: I have examined the title of your wife, Elizabeth S.
