The New York Herald'd Wash

positively certain that Blaine will

She was elegantly dressed and her
hands glittered with diamonds.
She said that Arthur P. Gorman

Mr. Samuel Hudson of Pollokeville has

of tho usual routine business took a

Mr. J. F. Taylor has jusc completed
his lirge two-story warehouse at (he
foot of the market wharf. Its dimen-
ions are 86x45 feet. This, with the
space he already has, will enable him

wholesale trade.
The News and Observer got the name
of the President of our new bank com
menced with a "B.': Mr. Cutler says
oall him anything else under the sun,
but please don't call him Butler. Why,
Mr. Observer, don't you know that
when old Ben evinced such a fondness
for spoons Mr. Cutler discarded them

instead ?
A new and improved cultivator is
being introduced in this section. It
was patented by Mr. F. F. Cherry, of
Aurora, Beaufort county. It is being
represented by Mr. G. K. Mallison, who
informs us that wherever it has been
tried the farmers have been very much
pleased with it. In Pamlioo county
alone he has seventy-fire orders.
Another North Carolina invention of
merit.
"Voter" asks in this issue upon what
Bible will a Roman Catholio Mayor
swear witnesses, since the priest denies
the Protestant Bible as the true book.
The writer is undoubtedly crossing the
bridge before it is reached, or rather,
presuming too much. New Berne has
no Catholio Mayor, nor do we know
that it ever will have. Of course the
time has about arrived for the regular
election of a Mayor, and we have no
doubt but that the present worthy in
cumbent and esteemed gentleman, Gen.
Cullen A. Battle, will again fill the po
aition he has so honorably held for the
past year.
Yesterday Elias Edwards, an indus
trious and falrly-well-cfl colored man
who lives at Maple Cypress, abont
twenty-four miles from New Berne,
walked to tho city after his buggy
which had been repaired at Mr. J. H.
Waters' factory, and then walked baok
home palling the buggy with him. He
did this, he said, to give his horse a
rest so that he would be ready for a
big day's work, Edwarda attracted
much attention as be trotted out cf
town at a lively rate, strapped to the
buggy by plow lines. He started at 3
p.m. and said he would be home by
9 pm. ,
The ladies of the Memorial Asaooia
tion request that the citizens aid them
in decorating the graves of the Confed
erate dead and members of the Memor
ial Association. Ia order to do so they
request that all flowers heretofore used
in the decoration of private graves shall
be appropriated to this objeot, and that
no private graves shall bedeoorated
with flowers on that day. In this way
alone can the publio know which are
the graves of Confederate dead. There
are over fifty graves outside of the
Confederate vault to be decorated. Let
them all be covered with flowers, and
let some other day be selected for
private decoration. , , '
