Two colored men, Aarcn Lewis, from Washington, and AIoczo Moore, from South River, had a dispute at the foot of Henoock street Tuesday night about 2 o'oloot and as Moore was starting away Lewis ctmo after him and without warning of his intention attacked and out him dangerously about his body. Lewis escaped at the time, but upon a searoh beiug made on the steamer Alpha which brought a party of ex- oursionists over to attend the Fair be was disoovered by policeman Land stowed away in a seoluded part of the hold and arrested. Upon the statement of Dr. R. S. Primrose, who attended the wounded man, that it would be several days be fore it could be determined how the oase would terminate and that it might nd fatally, 8. R. Street, Esq., post poned the trial until September 1st, (next Tuesday) at 8 p. m., and plaoed Lewis' bail for appearance at that time at $500. Bajng unable to give it he was sent to jail. .. Tobacco Raising a Success in Craven. Messrs. E. H. & J. A. Meadows sent a sample of tobacco raised by ' Messrs. Haokburn & Willett at their celebrated Oaks farm, Si mlfes from this olty, to Hendersotj to get the opinion of the tobacco growers of that section. They are in reoelpt of a letter in reference to it which states that all who have seen it pronounoe it eqnal to the Nash oounty grown tobacoo. To grasp the foroe of this comparison it must be remembered that no Btate exoels North Carolina in raising the finer varieties of tobacco and we are farther informed that heretofore it has been an admitted faot that Nash county raised tha best in the State.
