News was reoeived yesterday morn ing of the death of Mr. Walter Wood, a brother-in-law of Mr. Geo. Bowden of the city. He died Sunday night at the residence of his father, Mr, 8. R. Wool, near Trenton in the 18th year of his age after a brief illness from a rising on the jaw in wbioh he is supposed to have taken cold. A perfeotly groundless rumor of which no one could tell the origin wes circulated in the city yesterday to the effect that Rev. E. M. Forbes was dead. Hia mnny friends will be glad to know that the good old gentleman is in his usual health and was out visiting yes terday. A telegram last night brought the information. The eteamer Neuso took out good cx hibits from New Berne for the Eliza beth City Fair yesterday. Mr. Adolph Conn had three fine pianoajand an organ and Profs, bhaw and Walnau were along to cause them to give forth their sweetest strains of mune. Mr. J. D. Honolcy also went with bis largo and choioe collection of animalB, birds and reptiles. Still Another Industry. Nearly every day brings forth tome new and important progressive move ment for New Berne. Capt- J. M. White who has recently sold his milling property at Kinston has decided to es tablish a barrel and box faotory in New Berne. Capt, White Is a go-ahead business man and we are glad to have his plant located hero. His will be the first barrel factory in the city and the need for one is shown by the fact that about U, 000 freight was paid by our truckers on barrels used daring the last season besides the purohaae money. There were not less than 820,000 worth of barrels used here daring the season and all the money might have been kept at home and re mained in circulation here had a good barrel factory been running. The N. C. Experiment Station at the Southern Exposition. During the approaohing Exposition to be held in Raleigh during the oomlng Ootoberand November the Experiment Station will be well represented. It will be the beet Illustrative exhibit of all the divisions of the Station ever prepared, and will give visitors the best possible idea of what the Station is for, what it is doing and what it has dona for the farmers of North Carolina. A full ohemioal laboratoiy will be in operation, showing various analyses ac tually being 'oarritd on. A botanical laboratory will be shown also. The agricultural division, showing field testa and improved methods of farming, the botanioal division, the horticultural, the entomologioal, the meteorological all will be fully repre sented in attractive styles. The exhibit will be instructive and interesting and will doubtless prove popular place far visitors who desire to become more famil'ar with (he work of the Station. Goldsboro Fair Schedule and Rates. An Aeronaut Drowned In the Hudson. Niw Yobk, Sept. II' A man who had given his name as George White, of Chicago, was drowned in the Hudson River late Wednesday afternoon after making a balloon ascension from the pleasure grounds known as Eldorado, on the Palisades. The balloon began to desoendvery quickly when direotly over Hudson River, and White, slipping off the bar, hung from it by his hands un til the balloon struck the water and ooliapsed with him Underneath. Sever al boats of various kinds .Immediately went to the spot, bnt there was no traoe of White and his body has not yet been recovered. .,-: COUNTY COMMISSIONERS IN SESSION. Goldburg & Bro., peddlers be granted a license to paddle with one horse on his paying the add i tional tax to the Sheriff, he having already been granted license to peddle on foot. A petition having been read from township No. 3, asking for a levy of $150 for tho year 1891 to repair fence around said Flock law district in es:i township, it ia Ordered, That the petition be granted and the levy be made. A letter from Gen. Robt. Ransom, U. S. engineor at New Berne enclosing circular lettle from Capt. W. H. Bixby, captain of engineers, U. S. A. was reoeived and ordered to be filed. The report of the freeholders to es tablish a publio road from Dixon's mill to Piney Neck road pursuant to the former order of this board made at its April meeting, 1891, being submitted to this board, it is Ordered, That tho paid report bo con firmed and the eaid publio road if hereby established in aocordanoe with the Baid potition and report. It is further ordered that tho board of super visors of said township Bhsll appoint overseer and hands to work said road and that a copy of this order be trans mitted to the said board eupervisors by the olerk of this board.
