''listen at these words, gentlemen, and see If any im portance Is attached to them, -We will not say that oar property owners are taking advantage of the recent demand for houses by pushing up their rents, but if such is (he ease, we would like te ask Is It a wise step? . Do you think the effect will prove well ia the end? The prospects for New Berne's pros perity were never so bright as at pres ent, and every possible Inducement to bring about the desired result should be carefully guarded and considered. It is the, business of a plaoe that Is produc tive of its general good, and that can be obtained only through enterprises and people to operate them. The year 1891 will witness one hundred per -cent. more building in New Berne than there has been sinoe the recollection of the present generation, and still there is a demand for residences, mote particu larly of a medium class, those suited for families of limited means, who are able to pay from abont six to ten and twelve dollars per month. It is almost a daily occurrence to hear ot inquiries wanting either to purchase or rent in the oity, and it is of great importance, especially at this junoture where all have so much cause to be gratified at the start New Berne has made, that every such applicant be sup plied on - as reasonable terms as can possibly be arrived at Let's not only Invite people to come among ns, bnt let's get them and make it to their in' terest to remain here.
