The olonde that lowered about our house" were driven away by the wett wind, and smiling sunshine greeted the fair young bride at the gate of Christ Church olose yesterday afternoon. It was just the weather for the beau monde of fashion; being too warm for wraps the tailor-made oloth gowns showed every curve of beauty and graceful motion. There was very aooep table depart ure from custom in the hour of the wedding, whloh we hope will oommend itself to many other brides, especially to those who oome along in the spring time dressed in white with maids in I gowns and hats of orepe de chine, or soft mulle and hats of leghorn plumes The wedding was an exceedingly pretty one, the brightest we have seen for the season of the year. Although no formal invitations were Riven, the ohuroh was filled with the friends of the parties, and their congratulations and best wishes were most heartily ex pressed. -The ceremony was performed by Eev.T. M. N. George. Both bride and groom are connected with many of the oldest families in this part of North Carolina, the bride, Miss Mary Primrose Meadows, being daughter of Mr. Edward ii. Meadows and grand-daughter of the late Mr. Denard Hancock. She has endeared herself moat thoroughly to the people of New Berne by her gentle manners and charming personality. The groom, Mr. Frederick Qrabam Mitohell, eharea in the popular interest, being a son of the late Thos. Ci. Mitohell end grandson of Alexander Mitohell He ie most highly esteemed as a young gentleman of attractive manners, and inherits business talent from his father. At half -past four the bride came into the churoh with Mr. J. Alexander Meadows, who aoted for her father, who was kept at home by serious illness. She wore a gown of tan colored .oloth nd beaver fur, which fitted her petite figure most perfectly. Mr. Mitohell, attended by his brother, met the bride at the chanoel, and the beautiful service was made to the ac companiment of the soft music of the organ. Tbe bridesmaids and ushers were Miss Mollia Heath and Mr. W. Q. Boyd, Miss Lidle Patterson and Mr. Wm. M. Bountree, Miss M. L. Allen and Mr. Sam. O. Brinson, Miss Minni Bryan and Mr. W. P. M. Bryan. Miss A. B. B. Boberts was maid of honor; Mr. Alex. James Mitohell, bro ther of the groom, was best man. The bridesmaids oarried prayer-books of white and gold, tbe gift of tbe bride. Happily for Kew Berne in view of the lose we have recently suffered in the flight of some of her most beautiful young ladies, Mr. Mitohell has been persuaded to make New Berne his plaoe of reeidenoe. His old friends have already welcomed him to'his old home, and now share in the joy of the hap piest day of his life. The Petition for Double Daily Mails. We alluded yesterday to the petition to the A. &N. O. B. B. to give double daily mail and passenger servioe whiob has received the signatures of many of onr .best and formost. oitizens. The number of names to it is limited only by the number seen. Every one here desires the additional servioe. There is no doubt that it will be greatly to the advantage of the olty and while it would involve additional expenditure on its part of the road it would proba bly not be long ere the increased patronage would make up for the added expense, it might do so from the start, but even should the road officials be lieve that at the beginning the road wonld not earn as muoh as it is now doing we still think that due efforts ought to ba put forth by them to ao oomplish an end so greatly desired. The petition presents the need for the servioe and the reasons why it ought to be established as follows: NlW Bibnb, N. C., Nov. 23d, 1801. To Hon. Windfield 8. Treat, DIED. On the morning of January 6th. at the residence of James A. Bryan, Esq , James Washington Bryau, Bun of Charles Shepard and Annie McWhorWr Bryan, 27 months of age. Added to the fearful affliction already resting upon this esteemed family, the sudden cutting off of this intelligent little fellow is a sad blow indeed. He passsd literally from the very lap of life and heilth as swiftly as a weaver's shuttle. Coming from tha frozan North to see the last of hie gentle grandmother, no friend of the family dreamed that he would so suddenly follow after. Yet so it is. He was a bright and tender light to go out so quickly. Possessed of unusual intellec tual promise, full of the first dawn of a manly spirit, he had already taken bis plaoe as the oomfort and hope of his loved ones.
