Far into the woods where 'twee safe to

During the battlo of New-Bero.
'And on that day, so the soldiers say.
After the blue bad succeeded the gray
The birds onoe more
Came as before

After the smoke and ; the carnsge and

Almost in the cannon's fiery breath,
They gathered once more moss, feath

And went to work thtir nest to repair.
With their hopety hip
And their busiest skip;
In the now dismounted oannon they'd

Beneath the mild spring sun in the

Rebuiled their nest in the o&ccon'e

To wrangle and slay in their own rude

They only sought for the ways of paace,
And waited aside for the noise to cease ;
Then built in the eun they had uied
before.
And showed contempt for the ways of
war.
With their hippety, hip,

And this is the legend the soldiers tell
About the titmice and what befell
