The colored people are showing much interest in their approaching Fair ami arc expecting a large attendance from points that heretofore have not sent many visitors to its former exhibitions. Notable among these are Norfolk, 1 arboro, ( iiar lottc, Morganton and other-!. The officers of i lie Fair urge all to aid in making a fair display: and in view of the many new visitors the exhibitions of all articles of merit is requested, whether they have previously been exhibited or not. A live alligator, four and a half feet in ngtli, will h-among the exhibits. Mr. tieo. A. Parsons will be on hand ilinwing the marvellous performances of his phonograph, and there will be other peeial features of amusement. In less than three weeks the Fair will be in progress, as Monday. August Hth. is the time for it to open Home Again. The boys are back from Asheville well pleased with the trip. Their handsome tire engine attracted much uttintion all the more s as it was the only one there. No other city sent one and Asheville does not own one but depends entirely pou her water works. From the Asheville Citizen we take the following: "Mascot" Ueorge Randolph and his An gora goat t.rover, on the Asueville hose carriage, caught , tin: young folks, and the New Berne steamer "Elijah Ellis" caught everybody. I lie parade was a great lug sum-- It was near a half mile l"iiLr. Asheville probably never saw such a crowd near the square as that which .(Miked on as the laddies passed. Hie sight ol a steamer was new to many Asheville people. 1 lie decoratious on the apparatus gave a beautiful effect. The Asheville compa nies and New Berne made an especially fine showing in this respect. Another School. Sunday morning, in giving the list of the eleven prominent schools now adver tising in the Journal, we omitted the Kinston College. It led the way this season in advertising', being the first one to place an advertisement with us. The college is under the charge ol two progressive young men, Mes.-rs. Ix'e and Crowell, who are enthusiastic on their chosen profession. ' They have bought the college properly, also other property by it with the intention of providing excel lent accommodations for boarding pupils and carrying the school forward to a still grander career of elhciency and useful ness. Dr. R. H. Lewis, formerly of Kin ston, whose reputatiou is more than State wide, has been added to the faculty for the coming scholastic year. Besides all the banking houses being represented by advertisement, as spoken of, the entire number of our liveries may he added to the list. These two lines arc the only prominent ones; in which every establishment in the city is represented The gentlemen w ho arc conducting the livery business are among our foremost and most enterprising citizens. They ore Messrs. J. W. Stewart, M. Halm & Co., E S. Street aud J. A. Joucs. All but one of them (Mr. Jones) arc rricu of experience in the business, and lie is a young man hut little beyond his majority. He Is almost a beginner for himself tbouirh he has been well trained under his father, Capt K. R. Jones, ond he is bound to come to the front, for he is steady, possessed of good judgment, and is exceptionally dili gent in business. These gentlemen have been regular advertisers, and by continuous use of the Journal, coupled with their fine business qualifications, they have built up an im mense trade and made New Berne one of the best stock markets in the State. The Encampment. Col. Eugene' Harrell, Quartermaster GoncroJ, andl Lieut. W. E. bhinii, of the Tenth Cavalrv. U. S. A., are in Wilminir ton arranging the Wrightsvillo grounds for the reception of the State Guard.
