The Uuion telephone now on exhibi tion at the Hotel Albert, is one of the latest and best inventions of the age for rapid and accurate, communication be tween two points. After a personal in vestigation ot the system, we can say that for simplicity of construction, beauty of design and distinct articulation, this telephone cannot be surpassed. We had the pleasure of holding a few minutes' conversation over the wire with Mr. Bel- lard, and were surprised at the distinctness with which every syllable could be heard Mr. Bollard tells us that this phone works equally well for a distance of two miles, and can be put up ready for use at a slight advance on the rental of the ordi nary telephone. The absence of eleetric batteries reduces tho liability of getting out of order, and prevents entirely the danger from fire or shock. These phones are put up in any style of wood to suit purchaser, are elegantly nickel-plated, and become the absolute property of the investor, the lines w ill last a lifetime, and we think are just the thing for persons who wish rapid, sure, cheap and private communication with stables, mills, offices, depots, etc. Mr. Bellard will construct these lines, and guarantee them to work perfectly, at such low rates as to place them within reach of every business man. The short line now on exhibition at the Hotel Albert is ready for investigation, and all callers who wish to examine tho phones will be given every opportunity to bco for them selves that it docs everything claimed for it. Generosity is a I antilul rd English language But its practice makes one foci its force more absolutely when 11 is enjoyed without solicitation Ingratitudo is a i,reat crime, and we feel it would he criminality in us to allow our pen or tongue to lie stiil when we are continually made the recipients of kind nesses. First, with no solicitation the New Berne daily paper, our splendid city Jotnur.VL, is sent to 11s free of charge Then, some of my members, with some from other churches, keep pounding us every now and then. Then twoof our livcrv stsjilc uien gen eroualy ofl'er us horses and buggies free of cost whonevcr we need to ndc of an evening or morning, viz. brothers Street and Stewart. We went on board the steamer coming from Vanceboro to this place, some months age, with a purBe generously supplied us by the church tboro at the close of a meeting wo held, and felt good that we were able to pay our way home. But when wo pulled out our money ana wanted to pay for the pleasant trip, dipt. Oatline refused to tako one cent, and offered to let us ride on his boat free as many times during tho year as we chose to so. And just this week we went to Smith's Creek with our better , halt just as a pleasure trip and for recreation, and on our return when wo offered to pay. Capt. David Rooerts our passage, he said plain ly it was a free ride to as then and here after. Then we found our watch was out of order and would not keep time. Surely we can set clear of some or our money. and we aDolied to brother Ed. Bangert, who did 111 a splendid job oa out watch, bat totally refused to take one cent tor iu Then wo felt like contrasting these free-hearted Deonle with - the steam car, that charged an old colored preacher $5.00 for a ride, and wonld not take a cent Ieat than they charged a gambler or any oiner person, ana wao sbiu w u conductor, "yon do not lub de Lord on dis road." we felt in our heart that the editor, and Cant Gatllnff and Capt.
