The Democracy White of State I'nited for Supremacy. The National canvass goes bravely on. New York, New Jersey, Connccticutt, Michigan, and Indiana, have past the boundary of doubtful States and throw out their banners at the head of the column of the Na tional Democracy. i1 Since our last issue elections . have been held in Maine and ' Vermont. It was not expected that these Republican States would go Democratic. There is no disappointment on our part; on the contrary we are delight ed that the Republican majority was greatly diminished. If re volt against the McKinley tariff in New England continues to increase in. the ratio that has marked the last few months i). until the Presidential election, the . votes of Vermont, Maine, ' New Hampshire, Massachusetts, ' Rhode Island and Connecticut ; , ; will .all be given to Cleveland , and Stevenson. We do not "V ' claim all New England, but t ' 1 1 it is prophetic of victory when . Plymouth Rock echoes the r praises ot democracy. How is itin the Middle States? ' ., In Pennsylvania the Republican . f - leaders have hoisted the danger ' signal, and are calling to the ' Rational Republican Commit tee "Save us or we sink." The truth is the O. 0. P. is about ' played 6ut in Pennsylvania, s - and about all the National Com- mittee can do will be to send a squad to fire a salute over its ' grave. ' There is more vitality in the Republican party in Ohio than " there Is in Pennsylvania, but that is only' because there are !" more "blow.hards" Sn the Buck eye than " there are i n k the , V' Keystone State. - -; Illinois J s just hustling to get ' -on the Democratic track, ', She ; is on the Republican rail now, but she .has been signaling the ' engineer to stop and put her out , at every station and every cross ; ing, and if It Is not done before 1 the seventh of November he .will just throw th'e' rhole train off the track and hoist the Dem ocratic flag over the ruibs. , - Vhcmmn, Iowa, Kansas, . If'" ' ; - i '! doubtful; States, with, leanings towards Cleveland and Steven son. -" - "Well,- now toll us about North Carolina - It is pleasing to hear good news from the North and the South, the East and "the West, but North Caro lina is dearer to us than all the world ' beside. Tell us ' about North Carolina." . 'it Good t North Carolina is all right. North Carolina will cast her electoral vote, for Cleveland and Stevenson, and elect Elias Carr by a handsome majority. However others may feel fwe are happy in the belief that many who went off into 'the People's party will participate in the glory of the achieve ment. s It is very certain now that the fight in North Carolina is be tween the Democratic and Re publican parties. No third party is in it. When Sullivan and Corbett were fighting it would have been very foolish for any man to have bet on Billy Mahone. Billy wasn't in it, nor is the Third party in this fight. It is a fight to the finish be tween ' the Democratic and Republican parties. The result may have been at one time doubtful, but it is no longer so. North Carolina may be doubtful on the tariff issue, or on free coinage, but the late ftepubhean convention swept these issues from the fiold and in their stead substituted white SUPREMACY OK NEGRO DOMINA TION. Be not deceived. The aboli tion of county government, for which Republicans contend means negro domination, and don't you forget it. Let the re collection of this truth be the first to salute your mental vis ion in the earliest light of the morning, and the last on which you close your eyes when you draw the drapery of your couch around you and fold your arms in sleep. Sleep well.' for if augio-saxon supremacy is sup. planted by negro domination yiere will be no rest, no Bleep but the sleep of the grave. We thank the Republicans for the boldness with which they have presented the issue. It will rally the white men from the mountains to the sea, and every hill and valley echo the anath ema, "Damned be he who is a traitor to his God, his Country and his Race !" THE TARIFF. The Itoljlicr hatt bis Hand Throat. ou Your The imports of woollen fabrics in the year ended Jane 30, 1892 amounted io value to 435,665,870, against importH of the valne of $51,165,42 la the year ended Jane 30, 1890. Upon the smaller im portation of 1802 the duties amount to $28,800,000, while upon tbe larger importation of the earlier year $3,744,051 in duties were paid. By increasing the average duties on woollen from 69 to 81 per cent, the McKinley tariff has largely re duced the public revenues and in creased the cost of clothing to American consumers. Not only this, but by tbe encouragement given to the nse of shoddy and other filthy adulterants by tbe taxes on wool tbe quality of cloth ing nas been deteriorated. Such is tbe brilliant policy which tbe American .people are asked to in dorse at tbe ballot box. The Population of New Berne Is a boot nine thousand, and we would say at least one-half are troubled with some affection on the Throat and Lnnvs. ss those complaints are, according to sta tistics, more numerous than others. We would advise all our readers not to ne- leot the opportunity to caU on their rnircrlRfc ann ant m hnfrt1 a? al asm for the Throat and Lungs. Trial size free. Large bottle 50o. and (1, Sold - "BB .
