The executive campaign com mittee of the German-American " Cleveland Union met yesterday at No. 4 East Twentieth street Reports of the organization of German Cleveland campaign clubs in many cities throughout u the country were received, wver crats are now in the books as members of the Central commit tee for this city. Every assem bly district has a separate organization, and it is said that , the enrolled number of German democrats in the city already footn ud 40.000. Hew York - World, GLORIOUS "OLD ZEB. . Testimony of the Pogresslve Farmer u to His Patriotism and Worth. , Glorious "Old Zeb," true to his great patriotic heart and true to the farmers and laboring men of his State and of the Union, is ewer at his Dost in the senate and ever readv to fight for them. He is one of the few publio men in this country who talks in the Senate as he talks in the hustings. Whenever and wherever the rights and in terests of the people are endan gered he Is always ready to champion their cause, and he does it boldly, manfully and fearlessly. Progressive Farm er, Dec. 25, 1888. H: ,' . ap aa IIILX TO THE BROOKLYN DEMO ' CRACT. What tie Success of the Cause Means. Within these few words there Is Mnpressed the entire Democratic creed: "The Democratic cause is the cause ot the people. It represents their interests, and Is identified with their welfare. Its success means the . recognition of the tl'gnlty of labor, the prosperity oi the aoantry and the preservation cf oar liberties. It means equal r'ihts, honest elections withont lores , bills, taxation for public rar poses,' economy . in publio ex penditures and honesty and effi ciency in the Executive chair of the nation. A Democratlo victory tils fall will settle the future eon trol of the country for many long -rsto eome. The cause is wor- t of the best efforts of every if-rat who loves bis country ; 'i Tarty." .: . yr'XA'-'- "i TWO ME TWO STATES. The Most Influential Man lork and la Indiana, the Latter a Republican Oppose Harrison - and Support Cleveland. Two men happened to be in the peculiar position of control ling their -respective States in the present national contest. They are Senator Hill, of New York, and Judge Gresham, of Indiana. ' These men have each a politi cal following that takes its in spiration directly from its leader, ana tne following of each is quite ample to hold the balance of power between the two great parties. Had senator run decided to refuse the laboring oar for the Cleveland ticket in New York, Harrison s success in that pivo tal State would have Tbeen assured beyond doubt. With his cordial support of Cleveland, the democratic candidate can't be defeated in the Empire Com monwealth. Had Judge Gresham given a cordial support to Harrison this year as he did in 1888, it would have been possible for Harrison to win its electoral vote, but with Gresham openly against Harrison and for Cleveland, only a political oarthquake can give Harrison the victory in his own State. Phil. Times. (iEORGIA AND FLORIDA. Their Elections Make It Certain That the South is 'Anchored Safely to Her Democratic Moorings. Georgia is a State where the farmers' alliancemen are very num erous but Wednesday's elections shows that most of them refused to be drawn oat of the democratic ranks. With all the help that they got from the republicans the third partyites were defeated by at least 4U,(KM majority, and their discomn tare is complete. The news from Florida and Georgia, with all that has gone be fore, admonishes Weaver and Field, and the republican leaders as well, that it is useless to expect the solid South to break from her democratic; moorings. Count it for Cleveland. Richmond Dis patcb. Come Topether North Carolinians, That was a strange telegram we Dublished from Weldon, N. C, in which our correspondent states that some of the white people who left the Democratic party to connect themselves with tho People's party are re fusing, through pique and revenge, to return to their old party associates, now that they see the So-called xnira party is only a myth and can never accomplish anything real. These gentlemen should never have strayed away from their natural moorings and belong ings. They should have realized and known that in the ranks of the Democratic party lies the road for redress of all grievances that are real griev ances, since the cardinal princi pie of Democracy is equal justice to all men. But if they allowed themselves to be beguiled away temporarily, they should hasten to return to their brethren on learning that they rhave been deceived. Come together, North Caro linians and Virginians. We have a common enemy to fight, and this is no time for dis agreement amongst ourselves. tuenmona limes. J. 1 BRT1H, Fra. TUOS. DUIIELIJict Pres. I.
