Seciug several boxes filled with goods at
Mr. H.B. Duffy's we supposed he was mak
ing another large addition to his stock
but inquiring brought forth the fact that
the goods were out-going instead
of in-coming. They were sonic of the
big spring soles which Mr. Duffy has
been making that were being shipped to
the purchasers.
Going in the store we found several
more boxes that had just been gotten in
shipping order and were waiting their
turn to go on the street for taking away.
And i lie cud was not yet, continuing
our stroll we went up stairs and there we
found stacks of goods selected, assorted
and piled up to be packed for various
other customers. Mr. Dully has shipped
25 cases of goods in the last two days to
merchants of Onslow and Beaufort coun
ties.
It does us good to sec such quantities
being fold. Not alone because of the
benefit of activity in business circles but
because it is convincing proof that country
merchants and others who carry medium
stocks can do as well and some better by
purchasing from New Berne wholesale
dealers than they can by ordering from
distant markets.

Messrs. J. H. Crabtrce & Co., have ship
ped the 80 horse boiler which they have
been building for a few weeks past to
the saw mill of Mr. F. W. Reams, of
Hancocks creek. They have also made
a full set of castings for a dry kiln for the
same mill, which has been running here
tofore is now making great improvements.
This New Berne firm is well prepared
for any work in their line, they keep up
with the demands upon their skill. They
put in an automatic saw machine last
week, which saws through any kind of
iron, cast or wrought tho one operating
the machine simply has to place the iron
in position and start the machine. It
does the rest even to stopping when
it is sawn entirely asunder.
This firm is giving New Berne sucli
facilities for the best machinery and boil

that it is not to be wondered at that their
large force arc kept constantly busy with
work from a wide area around New
Berne.
