Walloon Ascensions at (he Colored Fair Mrs. Nellie Steele, the lady aeronaut who made such pleasingjascensions at tho last Xew llenii- Fair returned to the city ye.-t.rday morning from Washington, N. Saw Mill Leased Mr. .1. S. Ilasnight, who after the fire destroyed tin,- mill of the New lierne Lumber Company leased the Prettytnan saw mill and dry kilus opposite New Borne for five years, will resume opera tions Monday. The business, as of oid.will be known as the New Berne Lumber Company. The boiler and engine of the old mill were swapped for machinery in the mill ot which Mr. Busnisdit now takes chnrjM aim win uc sentte Kortn; it was nciug taken down yesterday for that purpose. Congress and all the churches hadn't power enough to prevent the opening opening of the World's Fair on Sunday, but as soon as it was ascertained that the attendance on Sunday was not lare enough to pay expenses the gates were ordered closed. Kinston Kuitling Mil's Enlarging. The Orion Knitting Mills of Kiaston have shut down for the double purpose of giving the operatives a foar weeks summer rest and for putting in addi tional machinery. The Free Pic.-s in noting this fact takes occasion to again call attention to the fact that this mill is a great thing for Kinston, giving employ ment to many pretty girls and a number of men and boys and helping tlirjbusinos of the town. The example of Kinston business men in the warm interest they have manifested and the encouragement and support they have given to this factory throughout its career is worthy of praise and emulation.
