Oeiigktfal Sport-Perfect fiaccea RepetlUoa Delre4 aaa Agreed to A large crowd witnessed the first meet ing of the Gymkana race st the Fair Giounds yesterday aftemooa. They were a great success and it has been decided to have another meeting next week when new races will be intro duced. The judges on this occasion were Messrs. Hughes, Hollister, Oliver and Roberts. In this race each contestant had to take off the saddle his horse and his own coat, then put all on including the buttoning of his coat, then rnce. 1st. F. Tisdale. 2d. Ellis Williams. Egg and Spojn Race. Each rider was provided with a large wooden spoon containing an egg. A ribbon tied at the centre of the handle marked the closest spot at which it was permissible to grasp the spoon. Thus equipped each man was to rule around the track without dronmn!? the euc. In case one was dropped the kiser had to return to the i-taml, get auother and start afresh. It was amusing to see the perplexity as to how fust would be safe to go. the chagrin manifested when an egg would be dropped and the speed with which the hapless loser would rush back after another, the others getting a big start on him all the time except when one would meet with the same m'sforlune, which would sometimes be done when the race was almost won. It was a matter of surprise, however, to see the speed that could be maintained by some snd yet maintain possession of the egg. The winners were 1st race. F. Tisdale 2nd race, Ejlis Williams. Umbrella and Cigar Race. Each rider was dismounted and provided with a eigar, match anil umbrella and required to strike the match, light the cigar and have the umbrella raised when the judges stand was pasjed. The one who then encompassed the ring and returned first with umbrella up and cigar lit won. Winners were: 1st race, Ellis Williams. 2nd race, J. P. Clarke. Needle and Thread Race. Ten contestants were provided with a thread; ten ladios inside tho track cncloure were provided witli a needle each. Vt the sig nal contestant rode with all dispatch to the one he had selected, handed her the thread, she threaded tho needle and handed it back, and then each man start ed for the race around the track. In this race a good deal depends on the dexteri ty of the lady. The winners were: 1st J. P. Clarke. 2d. F. Tisdale Potato and Bucket race. A bucket of potatoes were scattered on a certain part of the track. Each contestant, at the signal, rode there, found a potato, picked it up, remounted, rode back and drop ped it in a bucket by tho judges stand. It was allowed to drop the potato while mounted, but in case the bucket was miss ed, dismounting was necessary. Then back for another potato. The one who first got four potatoes in the bucket won. Winners: 1st, J. Scott. 2nd, Harry Roberts.
