A Rising Young Merchant. Another of our young townsmen, Mr. D. F. Jarvis. is gradually working him self to the front as one of our sound busi ness Jmen. Mr. Jarvis was formerly the junijr member of tho firm of Holland & Jarvis, but afterwards dissolved co partnership, lie remaining at tbe saina stand and where he now carries on a growing business. His line of goods is principally for ladies and the present stock just put in for the fall and winter trade is a grade higher in quality than is usually kept on hand. Such citizens as Mr. Jarvis cannot lie too highly esteemed by a community. Would that we had more like him. Beaufort Improvements. Beaufort is going ahead on town im pruveuients. The Herald mentions that tho lramB'of the two-story town ball. 1 ust back of tbe custom house is com pleted and when tbe building is finished it will contain six rooms below and one large hall above to be used for Mayor's court. Street improvements are also being made, a breakwater has been built on tbe front street and shelling the streets is advocated. America Gets There Still. A telegram to Mr. Chas Reizenstein an nounces that in the race sailed yesterday the American vacht Vieilant came out abead seven minutes in time and two miles in distance. This time and distance shows that there was a good wind at the time. , The plucky Britishers won't give np, but they can't head off American ingenu ity and skill.
