Try it Messenger. i The New York Press, of Friday, haa a cock and bull story about a "serious disagreement" between President Cleveland and Secretary Carlisle. But whatever you see in the New York Press about any Democrat or about the Democratic party isn't so. Just alongside this article about the disagreement is one which tells aboat the adminis tration having "back down" on the Hawaiian question, A statement of this sort discredits everything else in the paper, for all the world knows that whatever else may be alleged with truth against this ail ministration, it doesn't "back down." Observer. THREE TfEEE KILLED. A Fight la South Carolina Between Moonshiners and Dispensary Constables. Gbxbnville, S. 0., November 21. Advises to the News says that a regular battle occurred yes terday in the mountains near the line between Greenville and Spar tanburg counties on Spartanburg aide. There was a publto sale and large number of mountain people assembled. Whisky flowed freely, and there was more or less fight ing all day. This culminated In the afternoon, when the owners of a blockade whisksy wagon and a couple of dispensary officers, who had tried to seize it, "came togeth er. After a brief perliminary wran gle shooting began. Most of the sober and elderly men had gone home "the boys'' had a beautiful time of it and a free fight to them selves. One of the owners of the wagon, a man named Harris, from North Oarolina, was shot through the .heart and was instantly killed. Henry Fisher, one of the dispensary! officers, was fonnd in the kitohen dead .with a ballet tarongnnis breast, several others were wounded, three seriously, and nearly everybody bad a slash from a knife or a blow from the butt end of a revolver as a souve nlr of the event. Death of H. Jeremiah Busk. VntOQUA, Wis., Nov. 21. Ei Gove nor Jeremiah Busk, Secretary of Agncalture in President Harri eon's Cabinet, died here at 8 o'clock this Imorning. There la one sia which it aeems to me is everywhere, and everybody is underestimated and quite too attach oveilooked ia valaatioae of charao ter. It la the ala of frettiog. It ia aa common aa alt, aa speech so common that nnless it rises stove its usual monotone we do not even observe it. Watch any ordinary coming together of peo ple and we see bow many miuuUta it will be before womt-body frets that Is, makes jtore or lees com. plaining statement of something or other, which most probably every one in the room or the ear or on the atreet corner knew before, .and which most probably nobody can help. Why say anything about it. It is cold, it i to , it is wet, it is dry, somebody has broken an ap pointment, ill-cooked a meal; tsto pidity or bad i ith somewhere has resulted in dip omfort. There artjplenty of things to fret a boat. It is simply nttooishiog how mnch annoyance and discom fort may be fonnd in the oonrse of every day's living, even at the sim plest, if one only seeps a sharp eye out on that side of things. Every Qoly Writ says we are prone to trouble as sparks fly up ward. But even to the sparks fly ing upward, in tho blackest of smoke, there is a blue sky above, and the less time they waste on the road the sooner they will reach it. Fretting is all time wasted on the road. Helen linnt. Protective Tariff (irand March. It is gotteu up in attractive and artistic shapes and is quite popular w Hh the lovers ot the beantiial. Distauce Traveled in Dancing. An average waltz takes a d.tneur over.aboat Hirr -a quarters of'a milo; a square danco makes him cover ball a mile. A girl with a well-filled programme traveln thus in one evening: Twelve wallas, nine milet-; fonr other dances at half a mile apiece, two miles more; the intermission jtroll and the trips to the dressing- room to renovate her gown and complexion, half a mile more;grand total, eleven and one-half miles.
