(.'olib, of Raleigh. It is a book 9o well edited that it seems in us no Baptist would be willing to be without it his household, and it is worthy of preservation lor future reference for its historical feu tun s. It gives facts and statistics of the seveial branches of the Baptist deiiominalioii' Regular, Free-Will, Primitive or "Hard Shell," etc., with organization by counties and a list of all the ordained preacher's in the North Carolina Baptist convention and Biographical sketches of the leading ones who have died during the year. Al so the usual amount ol information given in such publications relative to tile State and national governments, holding of courts, etc. We believe such a handy publication is good for any denomination. Conferences Appointments. Ncw3 from Conference is that Rev. R. A. Willis, who for (our yars has been pasior of CenUnary M. E. Church, this city, w ill next year be at Fayelteville, and ReV. J. T. Lyon, who has been pasior at Fayetteville, conies to New Berne. Mr. Lyon is liked where ever he goes, and our Methodist citizens express their delight nt the appointment. There has btcn a gracious revival un der Mr. Lyon's ministry at Fayetteville this year which resulted in about a hun dred additions to the church. Opening of a Beaufort Cannery Messrs. Weitzel and Qandy have open ed an oyster industry in the large Davis building here. They contemplate open ing from 400 to 600 bushels of oysters per day. The money that would be paid out to labor will be from $75 to $80 per day. Such a sum will be felt among our busi ness men and will greatly increase trade. We are personally acquainted with the above named gentlemen and we find them to be straight-lorward business men. They have had several discouragements in the start. But they claim if they can get oysters at a reasonable price, say 20c od the rock and 5c. allowed for freight and 2c. for inspection that they can run. but il they have to pay more they will have to close tueir industry. Stood the Test. AHoock'd Porous i'lastera are un approachable in curative properties, rapidity and safety of action, and are the only reliable plasters ever pro duced. They have successfully stood the test of over thirty years' use by the publio; their virtues have never been equalled by mutators who have sough to trade upon the reputation of Alloook's by making plasters with holes in them and olaiming them to be "just as good as Allcock's and tbey stand today.mdorsed by not only the highest medioal aathorittes, bat by millions of grateful patients who have proved their efficacy as a house hold remedy. Beware of imitations. Ask for Alloock's, and do not be persuaded to accept a substitute. ttrandreth'8 rills will purify the Hood. OLD BAKER 1861 at TAYLOR'S JUNCTION. . . Notice Karar Reserves. Dr. Bell is a man of good physique, considerably above medium size, erect, with broad forehead and full, round face, closely shaven except hU mustache which is moderately heavy; In: has dark eyes which look kindly through his spec tacles, and full hem i of dark hair, not quite forgotten of the "silver threads." It has good Scripture warrant of long standing in the case ol Kzra, ( I!. I . 4-l'n who "read in the book di-tincllv and gave Ihe sense, and caued then lo umlciMand the meaning. It is not our purpose to jive a report of the sermon at m v length. It was sound, forcible mid eminently practiial. II Christians walk with God," they must not go witn them to the darning lull, the gambling saloon, the pool room, if Christians "walk with (Jod," it is ns natu ral, and as much to be expected that Con wi'l "take" them, as that when one has walked down the street with his friend to his home, his friend w il I open the door and welcome hi in in. 1!.
