A few days ago, mid for several days, some farm hands were engaged working in a Held in llie vicinity of Hog Maud, in Neuse river, a few niilis Jioiii .New Itune. One of the hands had missed daily from his dinner pail, a portion of his dinner. and, not being ahlo to detect llie culprit he resorted ,'o extreme measures; he mix ed with his com diimplin a lot of I llti.S green, and awaited lesulis. During the morning be missed o.n- ol his fellow workers, a man whom, ho sus pected of ''raiding his lurdor," and going in search ol him, found him some distiiiice away, lying on the ground and groaning as if in great pain, whereupon the follow ing colloquy took place: "What ails you?" "Ohj I don't know!" "Well let me tell you. If you eaten any o' dc wittles outen my bucket to-day, Paris green's Wats ail you! for souielxxly's been n-stealing my wittles and I make up my mind I cotcli 'em and I 'spec' you am de one got cotched!" The writhing and suffering victim at once jumped to his feet and made a "bec line" for Nelson's store where calling for a. pound ol raw salt pork he at once pro ceeded to eat it, with the result thai the stolen food Was soon brought to the view of the bystanders. The raw meat acted as an emetic and apparently as an antidote to the poison, and in a little while the darkey seemed out of danger.
