The original railroad debt of Carteret county was 450,000. This was for bonds in exchange fur stock in the A, & N. C. R. R. A part of this debt was paid shortly after the war, but for a numliet1 of years there has been no payment o it at all. Judgmont wss 'obtained on the bonds in the United States Circuit court and in Carteret county superior court. A year ago a compromise agreement between the county nnd the creditors was reached. -At tho time of this agreement for a compromise Ibo balance of tho debt and the interest had amounted to sbout (160,000.
