Mr McAdoo had been' much interested
in the stalwart Governor pt Newjersey
and was one of the few who -declared
for Mr. Wilson when a personal poll
of the New York delegation was taken
at the Baltimore Convention.' After
Mr- Wilso had been nominated, Mr.
McAdx) was made chairman of the
Democratic National Committee and
because of .the illness of Mr. McCoombs
was called upon to. take charge of the.

; : Mf. McAdoo was born in Georgia in
1863 of a family which had been weal
thy but had lost all in the Civil War.
At twenty-on you ng "McAdoo was ad
mitfed to the bar and five years later
he cane to New York. Here he formed

has been Assistant: Secretary 'of 'the
