FOOT PRINTS ARE TRAILED City Councilman Found With Head 'Crushed on Doorstep of Fash ionable Woman's Home. STAMFORD, C5NN., June 25. A mysterious tragedy, tnvol-ing two prominent families, occurred here early today, when Waldo R. Ballou, a member of the City Council a:ul one of the best (known residents of Stamford, was found unconscious, with his head crushed in, at the en trance of the fashionable Ripawan Apartments in' the center of the city. The police declare that the person who made the footprints had entered the apartment of Mrs. Helen M. Anple, a wealthy divorcee. The police further declared tint there was evidence that the body had been dragged down the stairway which was stained in several flares with spot? of blojd. Mayorpangert Has Quite ALargcJDockcl r,4 Jiv:iai SEVERAL OFFENDERS WERE BE 4 FORE HIM YESTERDAY jj AFTERNOON Jf3S ,m Lucy Simpson, colored, who was enn-victe-4 of running a gambling house in Craven county Superior Court about ten months ago, and sentenced to be confined in the county jail' for twelve months, was arraigned before the Mayor at Police Court yesterday afternoon charged with being disorderly. She was convicted of this charge and .sentenced to serve thirty days in the county jail. A short time after this woman was placed in jail she was made a "tr-ntv" and allowed t visit dil'fernt paits of the town. She was in the vicinity of Smith Town Wednesday afternoon and became engaged in an alu-ieation with another colored woman. Judgment was suspended on the pay ment of the cost in the case .igaint Lottie Tootle, colored, for disorderly conduct. There not being; sufficient evidence for conviction in the case against Edward Chadwick, colored, charged with being disorderly, he wa3 discharged and a warrant was drawn against him for being a vagrant. He was con victed of this charge and sentenced to serve thirty days on the county roads. - Tabernacle Church s Electric Fans j1- t WlLt IVHkE THE HOUSE M ORE COM PORTABLE DURING ' " tUMMER MONTHS f Realizing the need of making their chiirch more, comfortable during the hot summer months the Tabernacle Baptist church has decided to install electric fans m the church. The contract has been let with the New Bern Electric Supply Company for six Emerson Electric Fans to be installed next week. These fans will be placed in such position as to insure a circulation of cool air in the entire building thus assuring each occupant of a cool breeze to keep him or her pleasant and com fortable. This it is thought, will be an attrac tive feature at the Tabernacle and maty will probably uttend church now thar have not been going heretofore on ac count of the extreme heat.
