The Sen atorial Convention of the Second Senatorial District has been called by Chairn.in Wiley C. Rodman to meet in this city on Wednesday, July 20th, for the purpose of naming two sena torial candidates for this district. This convention is composed of seven conuties, viz Beaufort, Hyde, Pamlico, Martin, Washington, Dare and Tyr rell. Among the candidates mention ed so far are C. W. Davis of Hyde, Dr. D. A. Dees Pamlico; Harry Stubbs, Martin and Mark Majette, Tyrrell. A rate war is on between the Eastern Carolina Transportation Company and the new transportation line between Elizabeth City and Nags Head- The fare has been cut to fifty cents, and the the cutting is likely to continue. He v. as pi ced on the route and Captain :i'-tir Johnson, who has been master of the I attie Creef for twenty years, retired from the services of the company. He promoted a new transportation line and secured the steamer Trenton. The first trip was made Monday. Cap tain Johnson began the war when he cut his fare to seventy-five cents per passenger. The Eastern Carolina Trans portation followed with a cut to fifty cents. O'MARKS AND SON ARE MOVING THEIR STOCK ARE GETTING READY TO OCCU PY NEW BUILDING ON MIDDLE STREET. O. Marks and Son are now moving their stock from their old building t their new three story building on Mid dle street. The new building has not been fully completed yet but there is only a .ittle work remaining to be done. The enormous job of moving will not be completed before some time this week. It has been reported that the old building has been rented, but Mr. Marks in an interview with a Journal reporter yesterday said that thisa mis take, and that the building will not be occupied by any one until it has been remodeled. The front and a por tion of the side of the building will be torn out and a great deal of improve ment will be done, and when this done the structure will present quite a dif ferent appearance.
