(4) No parking on Mallette Street; (5) no parking within 1,50 feet of the intersection of Pitisboro and McCauley Street; and (6) the erection of overhead turning lane directional signs on major streets where the.se lanes are now marked on the pavements. The.sc recommendations were made by the Planning Board in a letter to the aldermen as “some of the less costly traffic improve ment proposals which would af ford some immediate relief to the traffic situation.’’ Mrs. Mary DeBerry recently joined the staff of the University Botany Department as secretary- librarian. Police Spot Smoke In A & P; Burned-Out Motor Is Source Driving by the A and P store on routine patrol shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday Police Patrolmen Char lie Byrd and Charlie Edmonds noticed something unusual inside the West Franklin Street super market. Stopping the car and looking through the front wdndow of the store, they, saw a misty atmosphere like insect spray inside, shown up by the few lights that are left on through the, night on the sales floor. On closer inspection they realized the store was filled with smoke. At 3:14 a.m. they notified Desk Sgt, Coy Durham over their car radio and he in turn called store manager William L. Alexander and Firemen Bill Ray, Eric Crabtree, and David Roberts to the scene. Mr. Alexander let the firemen in and they found a burned out re frigerator motor in the back of the store to be the cause of the i smoke.
