Police Spot Smoke In A & P;
Burned-Out Motor Is Source
Driving by the A and P store on
routine patrol shortly after 3 a.m.
yesterday Police Patrolmen Char
lie Byrd and Charlie Edmonds
noticed something unusual inside
the West Franklin Street super
market.
Stopping the car and looking
through the front wdndow of the
store, they, saw a misty atmosphere
like insect spray inside, shown up
by the few lights that are left on
through the, night on the sales
floor. On closer inspection they
realized the store was filled with
smoke.
At 3:14 a.m. they notified Desk
Sgt, Coy Durham over their car
radio and he in turn called store
manager William L. Alexander and
Firemen Bill Ray, Eric Crabtree,
and David Roberts to the scene.
Mr. Alexander let the firemen in
and they found a burned out re
frigerator motor in the back of
the store to be the cause of the i
smoke. There was no other damage
to the store.
