11 in Memorial Hospital.
Richard Morse Peters, Jr.
A son, Richard Morse, Jr., was
born to Dr. and Mrs. Peters of
Greenwood Road on November 9
in Memorial Hospital. They have
three other children, all girls;
Joan, seven, Deborah, three-and-
one half, and Barbara, who is 14
months. Both parents are staff
doctors at Memorial Hospital.
Christine Amatruda
A daughter, Christine, was born
to Dr. and Mrs. Thomas T. Ama-
truda of 14 Maxwell Road, Glen
Lennox, on October 20 in Duke
Hospital, Durham. Other children
of the couple are Thomas HI, who
is three-and-one-half, and Cather
ine, one and one-half.

a nurse at Meitorial Hospital. The

The brides parents are residents
of Roanoke. The groom is the son

Ballet Talk Is Given
For Beta Sigma Phi
Jane Riley spoke on ballet at
Tuesday evening’s meeting of Beta
Sigma Phi sorority, held in the
University Library. The program
was followed by a round-table dis
cussion.
It was decided that members of
the local chapter would make fav
ors to put on the trays of patients
at Gravely Sanatorium for Thanks
giving.

Miss Ann Howard of Meredith College were here over the past
weekend to attend the German Club dances.
Eight members of the Department of Economics w'ho attended the
25t'h annual Conference of the Southern Economic Association in
Atlanta over the week end were Paul N. Guthrie, chairman; Mil-
ton S. Heath, Clarence E. Philbrook, Olin T. Mbuzon, R. W. Pfouts,
Robert Bunting, James C. Ingram and Thomas M. Stanback Jr.
Also attending were A. W. Pierpont, assistant dean of the School
of Business Administration, C. A. Kirkpatrick, professor of mar
keting, Henry A. Latane, UNC graduate student, and Rex S.

Carlos Lowrance of Fort Bragg, a former student at UNC, and Ted
Caldwell of Baltimore, Maryland, will be guests during the com
ing weekend of Prof, and Mrs. W .E. Caldwell.
Miss Elizaibeth Branson is in New York this W'eek on a buying trip.
President W. H. Plemmons of Appalachian State Teachers College was
here for the weekend. Mrs. Plemmons who came last week and
visited with Mrs. Carson Ryan and other friends returned to
Boone Sunday with her husband.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hayworth and Allison of Sanford visited for a
few days earlier in the week with Pi-of. and Mrs. E. T. Browne,
Weekend guests of Prof, and Mrs. E. E. Peacock were Lt. and Mrs.
Ward Peacock of Fort Bragg, Mrs. J. R. Morgan of Waynesville,
Mrs. Peacock’s sister, and Charlie White of Greenville.
Merwin Van Hecke, Editor of the Albemarle Enterprise, joined his
wife and daughter here at the'w'eekend for a short visit with his
parents. Prof, and Mrs. M. T. Van Hecke.
Mr. and Mrs. William Padgette are entertaining their daughter, Mar
garet, who is on a fortnight visit with her parents. Miss Padgette
is in training with the Red Cross Service of the Army and is
doing recreation work at an Army hospital near Memphis.
Miss Lynette Warren of Graham Court has as her guest this week
her mother, Mrs. Warren of Burlington.
Profs. Minor Gwynn and Guy B. Phillips and Dean Arnold Perry of
the School of Education, UNC, participated in the meeting of the
Public School Supervisors held earlier this week in Southern
Pines.
Aliss Betty L. Minteer will arrive at the weekend to spend several
days with her brother and sisterJn-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L.
Minteer of Sherwood Forest.
Prof. W. Carson Ryan left yesterday to attend the National Institute
of Mental Health Convention in Washington, D. C. He is a rep
resentative of the mental health committee of the National Con
gress of Parents and Teachers.
Three members of the UNC School of Nursing faculty, ^Miss Barbara
Bernard, associate professor of psychiatric nursing. Miss Ruth
Lindberg, associate professor of obstetric nursing and head of
the Dept, of Clinical Nursing, and Miss Lucille Spalding, pro
fessor of nursing in charge of graduate curricula, are attending
a conference on graduate education in nursing being held in
Washington, D. C., this week.
Marine Lt. A1 Rumbough was discharged from the service last week
and is here with his wife, the former Patsy Ellinger of Chapel
Hill, and young son Roy, who have been living in Glen Lennox for
the past several months.
