General Hunting Season Opens
With 'Id^l' Day On Thursday

a good start with the beautifully
crisp and clear fall weather on
Tiiursday.

ual bags of game were reported
hereabouts by the state’s game
protectors, they said that the open
ing day seemed “ideal” from the
standpoint of hunting conditions.
A number of local sportsmen- par
ticipated in the one-week special
deer hunt that ended at Butner on
Saturday.

“very much better this year” about
abiding by wildlife conserv’ation
laws, although a few violators were

An admitted check forger on
several local stores was to be giv
en a hearing in Recorder's Court
this morning.

cut last Tuesday afternoon, Curtis
Oldham, fugitive from police hero,
readily confessed that he’d cashed
worthless checks totalling over
$100. The victims were Williams
Pure Oil Sc.rvice Station, Fowler s
Food Store, and the Sherwin-Wil
liams Paint Store.
A former reaidernt of Chapel
Hill, the 32-o'eark)]d JtNcgro had
been visiting here several iveeks
when he cashed the checks un
der an assumed name about 10
days ago. He took a bus to Bi’idge-
port Sunday night and police,
learning on a tip of his depart
ure. wired the Bridgeport police
to pick him up when he arrived
there. A detective arrested him
there as he stepped off the bus.
