Musicale Set

This Sunday
The last Petite Musicale of this
semester will be presented in Grah
am Memorial at 8 o’clock Sunday
evening by bass - baritone David
Small.
In a program of works by Eng
lish composers for the most part is
a group of three songs by the Russ
ian composer Modeste Moussorg-
sky, including an aria from his
opera “Boris GodounoW.’’ dther

Handel, Byrd and Vaughan Will
iams.
Although only a sophomore at
the University, Small has become
very popular for his fine, reson
ant voice.His interpretation of Joe
in “Showboat” (Playmaker’s pro
duction of last year) brought this
young singer many plaudits. His
well developed talents have also
made him soloists foir the Men’s
Glee Club of the University, and of
the University Methodist Church'
choir.
A native of Morehead City,
Small is studying in the Universi
ty at present under Gene Strassel-
er. His accompanist will be Miss
Mary Alice Dalrymple, also of the
University music department. Miss
Dalrymple will play Sfour dances
from Bartok’s “Mikrokosmos.”
The concert is free of chareg,
and the public is cordially invited.

Mrs. W. W. Barker carried her
mother, Mrs. John Borland to Uni
versity on Wednesday of last week.
They went to see Mrs. Borland’s
latest grandchild, Martha Kay Bor
land, young daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. James Borland. Martha was
born on Thanksgiving Day.
Visitors to the home of Mir.
and Mrs. Henry Cates on last Sun
day were Mr. and MrS. Henry Wil
son and son Marion, Mri and Mrs.
Jacob Hardee, all of Garrboro, and
Mr. and Mrs. Bernice. Dodson and
children of Hillsboro.
Mrs. Samuel Blackwood has gone
to La Grange tOj;^spend some time
with her sister,. Misk Lois Joyner,
who has beii quite sick at her home.
Tommy Hogan, sob of Mr. and
Mrs. Clyde Hogan, has been chosen
“Student of the MbUth”, by his
classmates at Chapel H01 High
School.
A. J. Freeland Is in a serious con
dition at Watts Hospital. He suf
fered two heart attacks before en
tering the hospital.
Miss Minnie Blackwood has re
turned to her home after a visit in
Fayetteville with relatives.
' Jack Hudson stopped to see the
Rev. and Mrs. John Ensign one
day last week. He was oh his way
to the Presbyterian Assembly
Training School in Richinond, Va.
Mr. and Mrs. John Freeland and
Mrs; Homer Tapp spent last Sun
day in Morangton visiting Mrs.
Fi’eeland’s'mother. '
Miss Jean Hogan, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hogan, had
her letter to Santa Claus chosen
by the Staff of WPTF, Raleigh
radio station. On last Tuesday, she
went to Raleigh with her mother
and had it recorded and it is to be
heard on the Mdnitdr Program. She
came home with a recording of it
for herself.
BOUNDS DANCE-PARTY
A Christmas danee-party for the
Sub-Teens ballroom class df Mrs.
V. L. Bounds will be held this Fri
day evening from 8 to 10:30 at
Mrs. Bounds’ Dance Studio. Mak
ing up the receiving liiie will be

Patsy Jean McGuire; vice-presi
dent, Keith Chapin; Secretary-
Treasurer, Bobbi Bounds; and So
cial Chairman, Pamela Decker.

short humorous talks at Tues
day night’s Kiwanis Club meeting,
as follows: Herbert Pendergraft
spoke on “Esso,” and Obie Davis
on “Texaco;” Clyde Carter oh “Re
publicans;” Bill Campbell on “Gro
ceries,” and Vance Hogan on
“Banking.” The annual ladies night
Christmas party will be held next
Tuesday and a stag party on the
following Tuesday.
