Escorted and given in marriage Vi by her father, the bride wore a blush taffeta gown with portrait neckline outlined in Brussels lace, long sleeves and bquffant skirt which extended to a cathedral train. The veil of blush illusion fell from a coronet of Brussels lace. Her cascade bouquet of white orchids and pink and white car nations was attached to an heir loom prayer book. Miss Patricia Ann Willis, of Spar tanburg, maid of honor, wore a gown of blush taffeta fashioned with fitted bodice, curved low neckline and bouffant' sTift with Isolds of taffeta swept into a bustle effect. Hinkle of By MRS. NOEL HOUSTCN Gold and silver predominated in the Holiday House arrangements of the Chapel Hill Garden Club’s Christmas party held Monday af ternoon in the home of Mrs. L. J. Phipps on Pittsboro Street. At the entrance to the house, the upper porch bannisters were dec orated by a garland and wreath made of cedar, magnolia leaves, pine boughs and cones, arranged by Mrs. H. R. Totten. The front door held a large wreath of fir fo liage, holly and pine cones, all del icately gilded. This was beautiful ly executed by the Club President, Mrs. C. H. Pegg. Assisting Mrs. Pegg in receiving in the drawing room were Mrs. John W. iTuller, Mrs. P. H. Quin lan and Mrs. F. H. Edminster. All wore corsages made with Florida china berries, and styled by Mrs.' Totten. In this room the mantel was done by Mrs. Edminster with white bells in varying sizes, silver ribbons and pine. Epergnes hold ing ornamental balls were placed at each end. A stunning arrangement of mag nolia leaves was placed on a large chest, before a gold mirror. For this Mrs. Quinlan used white paint to make some of the leaves appear to be flowers. These were sprink led with gold dust, and had gold china berry centers. A huge white candle was used to flank the mag nolia arrangement. On the piano in this room, Mrs. Phipps used “Orange Delight’’ roses v^ith Burfordi hojily in a most distinctive pedestal arange- ment in a brass container. A green Christmas tree was placed in the dining room, and gold lighted, held unique and original ornaments. The base was covered with a felt skirt, handsomely dec orated with sequins and brilliants. Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Andrew C. Shearer received the many com pliments for the tree. The dining table with silver bowl and candelabra decorated with gold balls, gold ribbon, twist ed gold tapers and sprigs of holly, was aranged by Mrs. Dudley J. Cowden. Cakes, cookies and can dies served with the punch were in great variety, and elaborately decorated in the holiday motif. These were under the supervision of Mrs. Guy B. Phillips. Presiding at the punch bowl were Mrs. Phipps and Mrs. Totten. Of great interest in the dining rom was the unusual arrangement of Mrs. John J. Wright. On the sideboard before a Targe gift mir ror was placed a brass bowl hold ing flowers made from gold color- er tin can lids, leaves from sides of cans. A photograph of this ex- ' quisite arrangement appears in ' the 1956 North Carolina Engage ment Calendar. In the hall, Mrs. C. S. Logsdon arranged pine, pine cones and red balls in a large brass stein, with a large brown candle for accent. For the mantel in the library, Mrs. J. M. Tilley used gold magnolia leaves and pods, pine cone roses and foliage. Mrs. T. D. Rose’s brass pitcher with ligustrum and balsam was most decorative on a chest. Swalins Entertain N. C.
