PAGE SIX CHAPEL HILL NEWS LEADER Thursday Mrs. Sandy McClamroch Wins In Ookview Club Competition Mrs. Sandy McClamroch of Stagecoach Road was announced as winner of the Oakview Garden The Books Youngsters Love at Christmas Cost 25c The Intimate Bookshop 205 E. Franklin St. Open Till 10 P.M. Club’s doorway decoration com petition at the Club's annual Christ mas Party night before last. The affair was held at the home of the Club President, Mrs. R. E. Dickinson, at her home on Howell Lane. Judges of this contest con sidered a total of 22 entries in the competition. First prize was a plant. Second prize, a ceramic Madon na, was awarded to Mrs. Alex Sessoms of Rogerson Drive. A full-page picture of some flow'd' arrangements or garc^en scenes is printed alongside the calendar for each week in the an nual book. Two arrangements by Mrs. Grey Culbreth of the Oak- view Garden' Club are included and another arrangement by Mrs. John J. Wright of the Chapel Hill Garden Club. In the January listing is Mrs. Culbreth’s religious arrangement —a kneeling monk, coral gladioli with soft beige pottery container. Farther back in the book is Is Engaged Mrs. Ernest H. Morris of Chap el Hill has announced the en gagement of -her daughter, Miss Gwendolyn Morris, to F. Paul Muller of Ht. Vernon, New York, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Muller of St. Gall, Switzerland. A late February w'cdding is planned. Miss Morris, w'ho was igrad- uated from UNC, has recently completed a tour of duty with the U. S. Naval Attache in Lon don, England. Mr. Muller, a graduate of Ho- here Handelschule in St. Galle, is in charge of American subsi diaries of Cyril Lord, Ltd., a British textile concern. prize, a urn, went to Mrs. John W. While the judges had praise for the large number of homes de corated over the community, they noted particularly that many homes in Carrboro and some of the out lying newer suburban develop ments were quite nicely shown off. Fire Damage Of $200 Is Caused Early Today The Chapel Hill Fire Depart ment was called out in the 18-de- gree chill of the early morning about 2 o’clock today to answer an alarm on Gomain Avenue. About $200 damage resulted from flames which had gotten a good head start on the home of Oscar Davis and his mother, Mrs. Lelia Davis. Origin of the blaze was traced to an oil heater in a front room. The flames were brought under control in a few minutes. When, the ala.rm was phoned in it was not know whether or not the house was outside the twon limits. The Young People of the church presented their annual Christmas Play on Sunday night. The direct ors were Mrs. Henry Morgan and Mrs. John Oakley. A large crowd attended. We wish to express our appreciation for this fine play and to all of the young people and the directors for , presenting this play for us. I a lovely gift. Everyone joined in the singing of Christmas carols. Little Carol Cheek passed out the gifts to each member present. Then the class presented Mrs. T. T. Dollar, teacher, and Mrs. S. T. Noell, assistant teacher, with The children, Junior age and , under, presented their Christmas program on Wednesday night fol lowed by a treat for the children. Rev. and Mrs. Morgan and family were presented gifts from the church. The Rev. Henry Morgan reports that there will be services as us ual this Sunday, Chistmas Day. We I hope a large crowd will be im>at-* i tendance at those services. I Mrs. Philip Sparow entertained j the Mt. Carmel Home Demonstra- i tion Club at her home last Friday night wih a -dinner party. Sixteen members were present. Everyone enjoyed the evening by singing carols and playing ■ games. Mrs. Sparrow, the retiring president, presented each member with an apron.
