Local residents are urged to appropriately display the flag that day at their homes and in the business district. Brldger P. Little, former Marshville resident, who has hade his home in Candor for some time, was killed in an automobile wreck near Candor Fri day night. No details of the accident were available today. Funeral services were held in the Marshville Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Interment in the Marshville eem etery Hei survived by his widow, two sons, two brothers and four sis ters. On Wednesday, afternoon at five- thirty at the Country Club close to 100 O. L golfers will start out on a tournament sponsored by the Franklin Street USO. William D. Feldcamp, director, has announced that expenses for this tournament and medals will be furnished by the Franklin Street Center. It is also hoped to have all the entries take part in a banquet at the conclusion of the tournament. .There Is stu a little time for anay boys who have not as yet entered. There win please sign up at the Country Club. This Is a handicap tournament and your handicap will be given to you before you start," states Mr. Feld camp. All entries report Wednesday at 6:30 at the Country Club. Official totals compiled by the State Board of Elections in canvassing the vote In the Democratic primary of May n shows the ballots aggregated more than 319,000 votes. The com bined vote for - Greg Cherry and Dr. Ralph McDonald was 819,688. votes. It was considered probable that some voters did not vote for either of these two candidates fo rthe nomination- for governor, which would make the total vote run higher.- Cherry polled 185,037 votes; McDonald 134,601. In the cam paign for. the nomination for the V. 8. Senate Clyde R. Hoey totaled 211, 049 to 80,154 for Cameron Morrison, a closest opponent' among Hoey's opponents. In Union county Hoey received 1,742 and Morrison 946. In 1 the governor's race. Cherry received a total of 1796 and McDonald 1060. "Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McManus of South Parker street, yesterday . re ceived a message, front the War De partment stating that their son. Pvt. Boyte McManus, was seriously wound ed In Italy on May 23. The message was received by. Pvt. McManus' par ents two days after they had received a letter from him stating . that be had been wounded and was in an army hospital and-was getting along fine. Nothing of a definite nature concern ing his injuries was revealed in either of the two communications. However, Pvt McManus stated in his letter hat he "thought he would soon - be back home and a civilian again, as my front' line duties are over for good." Pvt. McManus entered the service May 19.11942, and has seen action in both the African and Italian campaigns. Eight hundred and sixty soldiers took advantage of - free swimming classes for service men at the .Monroe Municipal pool last week. These classes were inaugurated by the Sol diers' Recreational program sponsored by the Monroe Park and Recreation ivimmtuinn Thrtta rehabilitation classes are held each week for con valescents from the Station Hospital. The free picnic grounds and barbecue pit on the country ciuo grounas were used by 375 soldiers and five tus loads of girls. Good food, swimming and dancing were enjoyed. A former Waxhaw resident. Wood' row W. Blgham, who la now doing war war at the Charleston Navy Yard, recently won a eaih swara from the Benefloial Suggestion ' Award Committee of the yard for suggesting a production tlme-aaver. Mr. Blgham, who is employed at a. rigger -with a snapper rating, proposed that portable signs showing the work request num ber be placed at the gangplank of an ships under repair or which have dif ferent job order numbers than the number painted on their bows. He has a service record of four years in the U. 8. Marine Corps and five years with the Merchant Marine. Cotton prices increased last week reaching a new high for the season to date with spot sales fairly active. Weather conditions were generally fav orable to crop progress. The crop Is reported to be two to three weeks late. Attention in the cotton and textile markets has centered principally on the strength of -Cotton prices coinci dent with the invasion news and on expected congressional action on pro posed amendments to the OPA ex tentlon bill. Prices for middling 15-18 inch in the 10 designated markets av eraged 21.37 cents per pound on Fri day, June 0, as compared with 21 21.20 a week earlier and 21.14 a year ago. S. Commissioner Nat C. White on a charge of illegally accepting service men's allowance checks under tne de pendency act passed by Congress to provide aid for the wives and families of servicemen. The charge against Mrs. Arndt will be heard in Federal court in Charlotte at the fall term The case was turned up by the Fed-! eral Bureau of Investigation after Mrs. Arndt married a soldier sta- tioned at Fort Jackson, 8. C. She learned some time later that her hus-1 band was already married, but. ac- cording to the charges, she continued to receive dependency checks although not legally married to him. Later she obtained a divorce, and married her present husband, who is serving in Italy. Ckmts-Gtey Mrs. Myrtle. Taylor Clontz of Char lotte and'Sgt. Ned Grey of. Miami, Fla., were married Sunday, June 11, 1944, in Chesterfield, S. C, by Jack Barton, probate ' judge. Mrs. Grey is the daughter of Mrs. J. T. Taylor of R3, Monroe. Sgt. Grey is the son of Thomas Grey, Sr., of Miami, Fla. , He has been stationed at Camp Sutton for the past twenty eight months. For the present they will make their home in Monroe. Mrs. L. A.
