Dr. Stokes was born in Korea , of Methodist missionary parents. He attended elementary and high schools in Korea, coming to the United States for his higher edu cation. He received an AB. do | gree from Asbury College, a B D with honors from Duke University, and a Ph.D. from Boston Univer sity. Prior to coming to the Emory faculty in 1941. ho taught at, II : linois Wesleyan and served as vis iting professor at Garrett Biblical , Institute, Northwestern. A Negro man was electrocuted and a white man critically burned while digging a well in the Lowesville section of East Lincoln county yesterday (Wednesday) morning. l)lt. Church Circle To Equip Nursery Tire Evening Circle No. 2 of the Women's Guild of the Emanuel and Evangelical Reformed church has undertaken a new project, that of equipping a nursery for younger children and babies. This, it is felt, is a large pro ject for a small group of women whose Circle has been organized for only about six months. If your baby has outgrown his ' crib, high chair or play pen the members of the Circle would like to have them for (he nursery. They can use them no matter what, condition they are in. DRILLING WELL She iff Heavner reported that, according to his investiea ion. the two men were drilling a well for Wilbur Sherrill in the Lowesville area when the Negro man crank ed the well drill up into the air where it hit a high tension wire. Both men reportedly wee hold ing the well drill when it struck the high voltage power line. Gas ton being killed almost instantly, j The dead man's clothes caught ! fire and he was immediately burn j ed to death, it was reported. The j rubber wheels on the well-digging i machine also were ignited. The power had to be cut off before La wing could be released from the current, according to reports. lie was taken to a Char lotte hospital, where his burns were reported as critical. He re ceived burns about the arms and legs, and was unconscious for several hours after the ac cident. Coroner Cline ruled that the Negro's death was due to electro cution. The dead man is survived by his wife and a number of children.
