The home was unusually attractive with arrangements of fall flowers. The president. Mrs. John Mullen, presided, and opened the meeting with the phems entitled. "A Song on a Bough”. Mrs. Yancey D. Moore, of Gas tonia. was guest speaker and gave an interesting and delightful talk on ”Our Feathered Friends, the Birds” At the end of her talk she 1 exhibited a number of unique birds nests, which she had collected. Mrs. Herbert Kuhn cave current events on the Far East and ended her talk with an amusing little treatise on being tired Mrs. C. H. Rhodes mother of the hostess, and Mrs. Moore, were the only special guests. For refreshments the members were seated about the large din ing room table, which was center ed with an arrangement of fruit and holly. On cither side were sil ver candelabra holding burning tapers. The hostess was assisted by her mother in serving two delicious courses of refreshments. Sorosis Meets With Mrs. M. M. Rudisill Sorosis met Wednesday after noon with Mrs. M. M. Rudisill at her home on West Main street. The president. Mrs. R. S. Mul len. presided and opened the meet ing with a Veterans' Day poem en titled. “They Went a Little Far ther". Mrs. Guy Cline read a poem. “November” which had been writ ten by a Lincolnton poet, “Muss Frances Ann Fair. Mrs. James Owen. 11l in her us ual charming manner reviewed the book. “Song of Youth”. The home was lovely with its decorations of pink, white and yel low 1 chrysanthemums mixed with autumn leaves. Special guests were Mrs. J. W. Daniel. Mrs. J. W. Braxton and Mrs. Owen. •Mrs. L. E. McQuinn assisted the hostess in serving two tempt ing courses of refreshments. Mentor Club Meets With Mrs. Carter The Mentor Club met Wednes day afternoon with Mrs. Ralph Carter. Beautiful white chrysan themums and other colorful fall flowers were used In decorating the home. The president. Mrs. Jack Ram saur, presided and Mrs. J. E. Kale. Jr. gave as an item of interest. “Turkey, the Light of the World.” Mrs. J. L. Thompson who was in charge of the program, gave an interesting account of the found ing and development of the Ladies Home Journal. She also gave short sketches of Curtis and Bok who I first published the Journal in 188 S. At the close of the meeting the hostess served two delicious cours es of refreshments, Mrs. William M. Lentz was a special guest. Buffet Supper At Lincoln Country Club There will be a buffet supper at , the Lincoln Country Club Thurs- I day night, November 18. Supper will be served promptly , at 7:00. All members are urged to come and bring their family and i anv in town or out of town guests. Bingo will be played after din ner. Reservations must be in not later than Wednesday. Jimmy Willis Has Birthday Party Jimmy Willis, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Willis, celebrated his second birthday Sunday with a j family dinner party. The table was centered with a birthday cake topped with two toy soldiers. The place cards were cookie soldiers. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Lander, grandparents of the young host. Mr. and Mrs. W S. Lander. Jr., and son. Biilv 111. Mr. and Mrs W. F. Baucom and son. Buddy, all of Charlotte. Jimmy received many attractive gifts. Mesdames Hoyle Are Book Club Hostesses j The Maids and Matrons and the Priscilla Clubs had a joint meet ing Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Hal Hoyle, member of the Maids and Matrons club. Mrs. William Hoyle was hostess to the Priscilla club. Chrysanthemums in various shades of pink made lovely decor ations in the home. Mrs. Charles Childs, president of the Maids and Matrons, presided and welcomed members and guests. She also explained the change from Armistice Day to Veterans Dav and read a poeny “Today”. Mrs. Hal Hoyle had charge of the program and presented Rev j Lewis Everline, who talked on the j Second Assembly of the World I Council of Churches held in Ev anston. 111. The most dramatic j event of the meeting, he said, was the Festival of Faith in Soldiers j Field, which was attended by 147,- 000 people. Mrs. Wiliiam Hoyle extended greetings to the club members and also thanked Mr. Everline for his splendid talk. The hostesses, assisted by Mrs. W. H. Childs. Jr.. Mrs Hoover Hostess To Review Book Club The Review book club met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Charles Hoover. Guests. In addi tion to club members, were Mrs. W. F. Quinton. Mrs. J. Wesley Ford. Mrs. W. L. Heavner. Mrs J. H. Heafner and Mrs. Bessie Sheppard. Mrs. Harry Davis, the president, had charge of the meeting and af ter she had welcomed members and guests she read the poem. ‘ The American Way of Life.” Mrs. Ernest Baxter gave the short topic on rose culture.
