Material is being placed on the lot on corner of Davie and Depot streets for the erection of another mammoth tobacco prize house. On Sunday night the Baptist church will give an illustrated lesson on the resurection The Kindergarten method will be used A number of the small boys (and some of the older people) are getting their fishing tackle ready, in prepara tion for Easter Monday I ravel on the railroads today was heavy. A majority, we suppose, o the travellers were going home, or somewhere else to spend Easter. A slight wreck occurred last night on the western end of the R. & D. yard here, which blockaded the tracks so as to delay the trains' going south some two or three hours. 'Don't forget the grand Concert to be given by the 1 Greensboro Choral Association in the .court 'house nest Thursday evening, April s. The 1 ad mission fee will be. small, and all who go may expect a rare treat. Read the announcement today. No Workman Monday. We honor Easter, and respect the de sire pf the force of this office for holiday on the occasion, therefore there will be no issue of this paper Monday Narrow Escape. The Brick Makers. A Workman reporter briefly inter. viewed Messrs Brown and Dean, brick makers and contractors, this morning, and obtained, in substance, the follow ing: . Mr. Brown said his company had decided to make no more brick until the weather should become permanent ly settled. The large job, the building of the large leaf house for Capt. Fisher, on Davie street, 90x50 feet, would be gin April 6th. It will be 5 stories high. ' The weather, so far, has been vastly discouraging to workmen, but especially to workers in brick, and they deserve our .sympathies. We hope .the weather will open nicety soon, that they may. get a move on them selves? thatt the, phrase now Mr. uean sa'a mat ne naa ocn cleaning l.L ... . ft ' a ' off a new yard some 300 yards south of his old place, and just in the rear of the Bennett Seminary building, and by the middle of April he would begin brickmaking. He had taken the con tract .to do the brick work on the church which the Methodist Protest ants were putting up on Lee street, South Greensboro. Mr. Brown said he ' had 600,000 brick now on hand, and that the Fish er building would require over 400,000 of them. The Descending Scale. S. S. Brown & Co., have discovered that there may be a descending scale In the price of shoes as well, as in any thing else, and that it furnishes the only nlan.by which they can vary from the one-one price system, t.r e.. to make an exception to the rule. -Taw time it is in the interest of the ladies, ot course, for Messrs. Brown & Co., would readily agree ith Judge Dillard in the sentiment that, next after the ladies, flpwers are. the prettiest things in the world. And this is the plan: Several pairs of ladies' fine shoes are placed in the front window, ac companied by this notice: : ' . "This shoe is worth $2.85. Ten cents will be deducted each day until sold. March 25th, $2 85; 26th, $2.75: 37th, $2.65; 28th $2.55." ; :.' How much farther the price is going to fall will depend upon the ladies, . but whether they can bear the suspense is very doubtful, especially , as there are not many shoes in, the "slaughter." t Easter in South Greensboro. -j There will be special Easter music at Newell' Halt'TSouth ."Greehsbpro, morrow night at' S.VclocTli Mi iwing programme wi'l be rendered by tjBj. choirv and will ; consist : of sofos; duets god fifce Vnor'uses': -.
