A Slack, of Franklinsville, returned home yesterday from a visit to Chatham county on a search for a gold watch which has quite a history. A certain young roan from Randolph county to Dallas Tex as, at which place he purloined a gold watch belonging to a young lady. The watch wu brought to North Carolina for the purpose of being given to 1 a young lady who was engaged to be married to the young watch thief When the young roan returned to North Carolina he found that ' his sweetheart was married to another, and he took the watch and gave it to his sister as a present , The young man then returned to Texas where he was accused of stealing the watch, was arrested snd placed in prison. . In process of time it became necessary to trace up the watch, and a letter was received from a party in Texas, de scribing the watch and telling the name of the person in, whose possession it was to be found. Deputy Slack, upon thorough inquiry, found that the, per son named as having the , watch "was not in Randolph, and he extended; . his search into Chatham county. In the neighborhood of Ore Hill he found the girl, and on making a demand for the watch it wu promptly 1 given up. The watch is said to be a very elegant one.'-" It is to be inferred that. .there .is a compromise between the! jrpung man who made way with the watch and the party to whom it belonged, the con ditions being a withdrawal of . the in dictment on the return of the watch.
