Mr. and Mrs. John Deaton, who ate a poisoned breakfast yesterday morning, are out of danger, but sti" very sick. The developments made since the report in yesterday’s Neivs are such that it appears quite wonderful that Mr. and Mrs. Deaton were not fatally poisoned, for poison was plentifully scattered all about their house. The poison used was the arsenic and powdered glass known as “Rough on Rats.” It had not only been thoroughly mixed in the biscuits which were served to Mr. and Mrs. Deaton at breakfast, but during the day, an examination showed that the poison had been put into almost overything eatable in the house. The vinegar cruets had been liberally dosed. The molasses had been so thoroughly doctored, that the poison could be detected with the naked eye. The butter was full of it, and the salt cellars were about two thirds salt and the balance poison. Jane Davis, the negro woman charged with the deed, will be arraigned for trial Monday morning, as it is expected that Mr. and Mrs. Deaton will be able to appear m court at that time.—Charlotte News. 50 Doz.
