UNCLE LEBO MED FORD GIVES VIEWS ON HOSPITAL. It is said that wise men change their minds, but fools never do. Sometimes it requires a great mis fortune to show ub the error of our way. When the registration books for the hospital election opened, I went and registered with full inten tion of voting ogainst hospital bonds, not that I had anything against 'hos pitals, but mainly because I had heard so much talk about the increase in, .axes that this bond issue would aring about. About four years ago I lost my left eye from glaucausa. For several months my right eye has been grad ually failing, and J am now prac tically blind. On Monday, June 20th, I was struck with a severe pain in this right eye, ami from my former experience, I wa satisfied I was go ing to have to have an operation, and 1 thanked the good Lord that there was a hospital right here near home where I could go. 1 then told the boys that we have been all wrong on this hospital elec tion and that we would have to get right. I was in the hospital six days. 1 was operated on by a man whom 1 have known all his life, and being a personal friend, he did everything he could for my comfort. My wife was constantly by my side, and the boys and neighbors could con.e tc see mo every morning and pet back home in time to do a full days work You haw no idea bow much these things mean to a sick man unless ou have had the experience I hsv" just had. If I had gone to a i Ashcvillo hospital, I am satisfied my bill would have been more than ;w,ee what it was here, and I couldn't have had the members of mv family with me as I had them here except at Rreat ex pense and unconvenie.ire to them, as well as n"glect of hu-sincss at homo. It seems that all t" bit; corpora tions, factories and liairir, in the iniinty are in favor of this measure, and as they have to pav the larger part of th;' taxes. 1 can't understand why a "oor man and smail taxpay er can afford to be against it. The poor man will be the on" most ben efited anvway, as he cjin't eo to a distant hospital and pay the big prices they charge. 1 am writing this to urare my fel low citiz-n: i at to w i t unti'. they -ee serious illness, r 'ir. operation .staring then ,n the f.icc, ! ; 'hoy see their duty in roga'd to this grest and impor iBt quest, n Let' get together and b iild this ho.-.p.y.
