The groom passing through Ashe
ville decided that would save time by
getting the license. Upon his ariival
in Waynesville however, he discovered
that Buncombe license was not valid
in Haywood, so he, with his pros
pective bride, accomnanied by Mrs.
Millard Howell, Miss Maude Howell,
and Miss Mildred Jennings, as wit
nesses, and Rev. C. T. T?w to per
form the ceremony, started by mo
tor for Asheville. When they crossed
the Haywood line, instead of con
tinuing to Asheville as they had in
tended, they altered theiir plans and
were married on the highway by the
I lig-ht of their car.
! Mrs. Sanford. who is the oldest
! daughter of Mrs. Silas James, was
lior sometime with the Waynesville
Hospital and more recently with
Morgan and Ward a stenographer.
