from Raleigh where he attended the
judicial conference as delegate ap
pointed by Governor McLean.
Mrs. Stuart R. Crockett, Howe
Taylor and Miss Nancy Crockett re
turned Friday night from Montreat.
They came by way of Brevard and
brought with them Miss Pauline
Townes of Madisonville, Ky., who will
visit here for some time. Mtas
Townes has been attending the Y. W.
Conference at Lock Broch Camp
Brevard. Other guests in the Crock
ett home are Misses Penelope and
Eleanor Tipton of Stony Point, Tenn.
'Mr. and Mrsl Oscar Jones and
children of Forth Worth, Texas were
in town a while Tuesday. They ex
pect to spend about two weks with
relatives in Asheville before return
ing to their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Smith of Ral
eigh spent the week-end with Mrs.
Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T.
Lee. Mr. Smith attended the N. C
Bar Association which met in Ashe
ville last week. They will return
later in the summer for a visit.
Francis and John Willis with their
guests, Dan Clark and George Adair,
of Atlanta arrived by motor July 4th
and will visit their grandmother, Mrs.
Emma Willis, for the summer. Mr.
dark will probably "return to his
home the first of August.
Mrs. Adford Derbyshire and two
young daughters of Columbia, S. C.
are at the Georgia Home for a few
months. Mrs. Derbyshire is remem
bered as Miss Ruth Ansley.
Commander and Mrs. Henry Lee
with their young daughter arrived
last week from Washington, where
he is stationed, and will spend sev
eral weeks here with Mr. and Mrs.
W. T. Lee.

been teaching in Winston-Salem for
the past two years, returned to her
home last week. Miss McDowell has

sition in the Raleigh High School for
next year.

Mrs. H. G. Stone was the grarom
hostess to the Woman's Club Thurs
day afternoon, June 25th, at th? home
of Mrs. McDowell. The meeting was
largely attended, this being the la3t
meeting for the year.
