We are glad that Mr. Hawley has decided to cast his lot with us dur ing the Summer months and we "welcome Mr. Hawley to our town. We spent a delightful evening last Saturday, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F L. Weaver. The ladies present were Misses Webster and McClauahan and . the two Misses MoFarland. Your scribe had a finger in the pie and did ample justice to the many nice things which were spread before him at the hour appointed. He wits iseated between two lovely young ladies which made" Lis appetite all the more courageous. We received ar letter this week .from M. M Ponder, formerly of this county, but who is now in Toston, Montanna.- Mr. Ponder says that he is well pleased, with the west and wishes more of the N. C. boys would go west where they could make money easy. We wish Ar. Ponder much success in 'his; new field and will continue to send him The News. A LETTER. Ediiob The $ews. ; ' j Dear Sir : As you have already published an obituary of the death : of Miss Lettie A. Morgan, I hope 4 this communication may also be worthy of space in your columns. Sliss Morgan was born May 12th, 1878 and died March 30th, 1902. She was an active member of the Baptist church and joined the church at the age of 15. She tried . to adorn her profession by an ' orderly walk and Godly conversa tion. In her manners she was ; . pleasant ; and would always meet , you with a smile. She took great pride in decorat ing and preparing flowers for Easter Sunday tit her church. A good sister remarked to the writer r that it looked strange that the . Lord took her off the day she prided in so much, the resurrection of her Saviour. She died in the ' fnll triumphs 6f faith in the blessed Redeemer. The funeral services were con ducted by Dr. Ervin, her pastor, ; tp a large congregation of her friendsi After which her remains were carried to the lamily burying . ground and laid to rest. . . . Before I close I must say that she bore jup under her affliction with patience and fortitude.- When asked concerning death Tia v marked : " I would like to live but if it is not the Lord's will I am readv to P-n." Rh .oiivi i -ather to come to her bed side, and then breathed her last with that pleasant smile on her luce which always characterized her. For her there will be no more night, No weariness or fear, . f No dreary waking up at morn, No cross no blinding tear. - The wild in. the sweet Spring time ' Will sing above her head. The blue-eyed violet will watch . Alone her lonely bed. Sleep sister, sleep; thy work is done. 'Tis time for thee to rest. We know 'tis well with thee to day We only are unblest. v N. II. Hill.
