Mrs. Westlake and daughters ex pect to occupy the house as 'soon as the work is completed. The News learns that Mr. James McDowell and family of Columbus, 0 , and Rev. A. S. Beaman of Harri dan, Tenu., former residents of Ociumbus and well-known in Polk county, expect to go west with Mr. Gray. Dr. 8. S. Daniel,' dentist, of Spar tauburg, vas in town Sunday. He visited Mill Spring Monday and will return there later to spend a week or ten days practicing den tistry. The date for his appoint ment at Mill Spring will hk given la.ter . Mrs. W. C. Bostic and little Mar garet arrived Sunday from Forest City. Dr. Bostic was prevented from coming by reason of profess ioual duties. Mrs. Bostic is look-iuo-well and says she likes Forest City very much and that Dr.Eostic lias a good practice. The Board, of Equalization meets the second Monday m July. The Board is composed of the County Commissioners and the chairman of the board of assessors of each township in the county.' Preparations for the Ice Cream Supper at the Columbus Hotel Fri day evening, July 3rd for the bene fit of the Baptist church are pro gressing nicely and the ' young ladies composing the committee, Misses Maud Newman and Bertha Gray, promise the young people a pleasant evening, with plenty of delicious refreshments on sale. A number of yourit'-people from the nearby towns are ekpected to attend and a gay time, is anticipated. This issue of TheIews contains announcements of the North Car olina State Normal and Industrial College at Greensboro and the Uni rsity of North Carolina at Chapel Will. C, in a few days to accept a position with the Bell Tele phone Company in that city. Mrs. McFee and chilc will spend the snmmer with relatives in Brevard and go to Greenville in the fall. Mr. McFee has resided here since last October and been actively en gaged for some months in assisting in the construction of the telephone system and -we regret that be is not o continue to make, Ziyou his1 uoine. .. . One of Mr. Estes' cottages near he Jfelrose Inn occupied by J. EL Bolich and family was destroyed by i hre recehtlv. Mr. Bolich lost a i arge quantity of household goods' although much of it was saved. I he house was insured, but the extent of the loss and the amount of insurance could not be learned. The summer season is now fairly aunched. Among the'popular hotels that have already throwD open their doors to the visitors are: Melrose Inn, Wisses Heriot; The Charles, Mr. Connor;. Mountain House, Mr. Owenby; The Esseola. Mrs. Campbell; Mountain Park, Mrs. Broadfoot; Wagoner House, Mrs. Gilbert; Pace House, and many other smaller boarding houses. The Mountain House has been thoroughly overhauled and repaired and opened by a Mr. Owenby of Black mountain. This popular hostelry was 'closed last season, much to the regret of the general public, and its rehabilitation is a source di pleasure to tnose wno have been regular visitors to Saluda in the gay and festive summer sea sons and enjoyed the hospitality 'or winch it is famous. MILL SPRING. Samuel osnell went to Toxaway ast week to secure work. Miss Lulu Edgerton of Poplar irove visited Mr. and Mrs. James Rucker last Saturday. ' Mr. and Mrs Belton Edwards visited Jir and Mrs. Asia Arledge ast Saturday and Sunday. Last week the home of Mr. and i Mrs. Fi ank Thompson was made happy by tue urrtval of a large baby boy. Congratulations to motner and babe. Among our many visitors last week, tuei was a "wee' girlie who applied, at ilfrs. O. T. Luyuard's ior byard. She received a cordial re ception by her fond parents and has decided to make it her tuture home. Best wishes for the mother and babe. ",- The Angel of Deat'u visited the. home of Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson and took from their midst a loved one and transplanted the little one to bloom, forever in heaven. May the bereaved parents be comforted by the full assurance that their little darling is not dead, but sleepeth. , , , On last Saturday Victor Bates re turned to his home in Spartanburg. The evening before his departure a mountain party was given-in his honpr. We hope tiiat Wr. Bates will be numbered among the many anticipated visitors to Mill Spring this summer. We extend a cordial invitation to summer visitors and health seekers. ; , Last Monday A. C. Boone, while riding over his river farm, met with a painful accident. , His horse hav ing fallen with him, dislocating the ankle and fracturing a bone. JLrs. Edwards and Shankle were soon at his bedside rendering aid and relief. At this writing he is very comfort able and his many friends hope to see hini out on the streets again and at his post of duty ere long. . , LYNN; . David Kimberley and family have returned to Asheville to live. Mr. Kimberley has been the landscape gardener at the Mimosa since Mr. Stamp took charge of y the hotel and his return to Asheville is due to the nbano-e of oroorietors which Wok effect July . 1st 1 , " W. H. Willard and wife returned recently from Virginia where the former has been spending the past month or six weeks recuperating from his recent severe illness.
