NOTES AND COMMENTS.
We received a communication
from Melrose this week that was
quite newsy in many respects
and which we would liked to have
published, but it was unsigned
and, of course, found its way to
the receptacle for all unsigned
letters and articles, viz : the
waste basket When will people
learn that a newspaper will not
publish unsigned commujn i c a -tions?
If the writer does not
want his name published his re
quest will be granted, but the
publisher must always know the
name of the author.
The county commissioners met
Monday and we intended to pub
lish a report of the meeting but
did not have time to copy it. We
may publish jt next week.
It might be well for some folks
to remember that "you can fool
some of the people all the time
and all the people some , of the
time, but you can't fool all the
people all the time."
Be up and doing. Don't sit
around the fire- and say the
weather kept you from working.
That's only a lazy man's excuse
for idleness.
A SHORT LETTER FROM COLUNSVILIE.
Jttiss Rtndolph( of Undrum, to Finish
School Here Chas. Green and Miss
Nannie Bryant Married Sunday.
Rabbit hunting was the order
Xf the day last Saturday. It was
a fine day for the sport and many
enjoyed it.
Miss Tekora Randolph, of
Landrumr S. C, will finish the
school at Collinsville. She began
Monday, Feb. 6th. We 'wish her
success with the pupils.
Miss Nannie Bryant and Chas.
Green were married Sunday.
We hope their wedded life will
be filled with prosperity, happi
ness and usefulness.

J. G. Raburn is building a nice
dwelling house.
A. M. Hendrix, of Cleveland
county, has moved into the Hicks
house which is situated near W.
M. Barnett. We extend to this
new neighbor our best wishes for
his welfare and trust his stay in
Polk county may be profitable
and happy. f :
The writer spent Sunday by
the fireside. He did not go out
except when necessary to do such
things as feeding stock, etc.
v And he thinks that anyone who
did Venture out and who was riot
compelled to do so, had more
courage than sense. It is a long
time since we saw so much sleet
-fall. It was three inches deep
here Sunday at four o'clock.
This , kind of weather is tough
on the mail carriers and we ex
tend to them our sympathy. The
people along the routes ought to
remember this and ask: as few
favors as possible of these faith
ful toilers of Uncle Sam. The
roads are bad and it is disagree
able to be out, so make it as
pleasant for your mail carrier as
you can. v
