Mr. Editor: Will you allow me space in your columns to call the attention of school Committeemen and teachers to an order passed by the former Board of Education xing the date for opening the achcols of Polk county on 1st Mondav in November, this order is continued by tne present isoara. , I wish to .cail the attention of j ill Committeemen and teachers to section 4161 of school law, es pecially to that part of said sec tion which relates to the emplo -ment of teachers- A careful reading of this section and a stricc observance of same will save a great deal of annoyance toillconcerned. Teachers must be employed in strict accordance with the require mants of the law. No teacher anokild be employed until due no tice of a regularly called meeting has been given at three public places by the Committee. Com mdttees and teachers will notice that the County Supt. is prohibit ed from signing any voucher for teachers salary until he shall have received satisfactory evi dance that such teacher has been elected in strict accordance with this section,: I wish to emphasize the follow ing; Don't employ a teacher except a meeting called for the pur pose after due notice, Don't open the schools until 1st. Monday in November. Don't contract to pay larger salary than fixed by the Board of Education for your school A copy of the school law has been mailed to the Committee in each school district and it is hop ad that they will familiarize themselves with their duties as explained by the State Supt. in his notes. A revial meeting at Big Level Baptist Church' is going on this week, conducted by the Pastor B. P. Jackson and Rev Mr, Lim bricks, Nanney, N. C. Two families in this communi ty have measeles. Otus L. Wilson and family, of Spartanburg, S. C. are visiting re'atives and attending the big m meting at Big Level this, week Mr. and Mrs. W. Y- Hemphill of Marion visited a week at their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M- Rup ple, returning home Saturday. Miss Maude Ruppe, has been( appointed to teach the school at Mountain View, com-1 mencmgthis week. R. TRYON, July 31. Contractor Smith has returned from a mon ths visit to his home in New York State. Work will be re sumed on the coneresrational church. Misses Mabel and Carolvn Smith left Monday for a month or eix weeks visit to Lake Geo.; Boston and points in Maine Mts. Geo. A. Gash is visiting relatives in Etowah, N. C. Mrs. J. W. Kenned vs has re turned from a visit to Glenn Spring, S. C Miss Hazel Middleton of Charleston is spending a few weeks in Tryon as a guest of Mrs. J. W. Kennedy at Sunset View. "Peck's Bad Boy," a moving picture show, was presented in the school house Tuesday night. Rev. W. C. Newell has re- tunred, from a two weeks visit to to Elk Park, N. C. Tryon is well filled with sum ner guests. Practically evry cot tage is occupied, and the bording nouses comtortably filled. Mr. and Mrs. J. Ellis Pearson, are occupying the Tom Mill's cottage. Dr. Hannah and familv rf Umatilla, Fia, who spent last summer in Tryon have returned and are stopping with Mrs. J." Hidey Justice. j . Curtis Arledge of Columbus has succeeded Dr. Clifford Babb at Missildine's Drug store. The Men's Reading room club will hold its first regular month ly meeting on Friday evening August, 2nd. 1907.
