These are slightly above last year. AS TO NEWSPAPERS. It 1 fooliah to arg-ue that county papers are t neowary and proper In the intelligent demU?ation of la form atlon. or that they are mot necea ary to properly Inform their con stituency fuMy ae to the various mat ters of Importance which arise in ev ery county. They perform a very sreat work in the newspaper life of the world, and every Man should sup port his county paper in pood faith for the common good. It is absolutely impoesltjle far the great dallies, cover ing larfe territories, to handle all these oounty matter in detail, and if they could there is a certain percent age of the people who would be de prived of the dairy on account of its price. On the other hand there are snany people residing- in the various counties, men Of means, with families whose intellects could he greatly im proved by reading a high -class daily newspaper. It is a duty every man if Kb cin afford it, owes to his family. The Observer Company, of Charlotte, K. C-, publishes every morning The Daily Observer, carrying full tele graphic news from every part of the world, full news of the State la gen eral, sad a variety of editorial com grtant, presenting views of all sides on story question, all of which tends to Improve the thinker, makes broader en laded people and develops inde pendent thought. The Observer Com pany also publishes every afternoon Ths Bvening Chronicle, and every Tuesday and Friday The Semi-Weekly Observer. In a general way, all these papers strive to attain the same end the making of a paper which will be a welcome visitor to every man's home, and to be a means of enlightenment. The Observer is $8.00 per year; $2.00 per three months. The Chronicle Is $5.00 per year; $1.25 per three months. The Semi-Weekly Ob server is $1.00 per year; 25 cents per three months. At the Bronx Zoological Gardens, New York, a new anteater from South America proved that he knows his rights and can assert them. There was no cage for his reception, and lie was put with the possums. He found possum society in a state of abject submission, an absolutism pure and simple having been estab lished, with one Taft as the unques tioned monarch. "Taft" is a pos sum of great size and beauty, which was presented to the gardens about a month ago by a friend of the Presi dent felect and whose pleasure it has since been to remind the other pos sums of their lowly and plebeian condition. "Taft" surveyed the ant eater with a glance of superior dis dain and undertook to show him his place. The anteater took it quietly enough until today, when Taft nosed him away from the supply of food. The South American has long claws, which he doubles up like a fist when not engaged in raking anthills for breakfast, and he lost no time in en tering the ring. It was a lively go, lasting one short round, in which poor "Taft" went down under a be wildering shower of blows. When it was over the unthroned monarch sought a very small corner and owned defeat. It is possible to teach a man what lie doesn't know by telling him what lie does. CONGENIAL, WORK And Strength to Perform It. person in good health is likely to have a genial disposition, ambition and enjoy work. On the other hand, If the digestive organs save been upset by wrong food, work becomes drudgery. "Until recently," writes a Wash ington girl, "I was a railroad steno grapher, which means fall work every day. "Like many other girls alone in a large city. I lived at a boarding house. For breakfast it was mush, greasy meat, soggy cakes, black cof fee, etc. "After a few months of this diet I used to feel sleepy and heavy in the mornings. My work seemed a terri ble effort, end I thought the work was to blame too arduous. "At home I had hoard my father sneak of a young fellow who wont long distances In the cold on Qrape Nuts and cream and nothing more for kreakfaet I concluded tf it would tide him over a morning's heavy work, it might help me, so on my wav homa one night I sought a package, and next morning I had Grape-Nuts and milk for breakfast. "I stuck to Grape-Nuts, and in less than two weeks I notlded improve ment I can't just tell how well I felt, bat I remember I used to walk tile 12 blocks to business and knew Jtew good it was simply to live. "As to my work well, did you ever feel the delight of having con genial work and tho strength to per form it? That's how I felt. I truly helleve there's life and vigor In every grain of Grape-Nuts." Name given by Postum Co., Battle Creek, Mich. Read "The Road to WeUvUle," In pkgs. "There's a Rea son." j Rver read the above letter? A new one appears from time to time.
