Prof. Koontz is a gradu ate of Wake Forest College, where he received the degree ef Bachelor of Arts and while there received numerous honors Which were conferred upon him as a re ward for his ability and integrity. We welcome him to our county and feel aisured that his efforts will be untiring in attempting to make Columbus ve on-, of the best high schools in the state and reflect credit upon Polk County. Intermediate Department. Miss Harrie Hyde, of Central. S. C, has been elected to have charge of the intermediate de partment. Miss' Hyde is an ex perienced teacher and is consid ered one ef the best teachers in the county. She taught a sum mer school at Melvin Hill this summer and her enrollment was the largest ever known in the county for a subscription school. This is an enviable record and shows thai the committee is after leathers who can accomplish something. Primary Department. The primary department will again be in charge of Wiss Min nie Arledge, of Columbus. Kiss Arledge's record last year reach ed the highest standard of effic iency and satisfaction, and we are glad chat she is to be with us again. She is a young lady of ability and highly educated, hav ing spent several years at the State Normal College, where she prepared herself thoroughly to make teaching her profession. Music Department. The music department will again be in charge of Miss Gar nette Williams, of Asheville, N.C Miss Williams1 record as a teach er and artist is far above any ever made in Columbus. The p0ple 0f Columbus and ef p0lk County have been working hard to build up a first class school here and their efforts have not been in vain. The town is an ideal place, with a healthful climate, good water, good churches and far removed from the evils of cty life that so fre quently destroy the ambition of youth and hope of parents. Send your child to Columbus where it can have an opportunity of receiving a high school educa tion and be able to cope with men and Women of their age. Expenses. The expenses for 1 the entire year are at the lowest possible figure. People who desire infor mation as to cost of board, tuition etc., may address Prof. H. L. Koontz at Columbus, who will be pleased to furnish them with all information desired. BALL GAME SATURDAY. Columbus Team Defeated by Lp, tie Score being 9 to 6. In a fast game of ball, on the local diamond, the Columbus ball taam went down in defeat before the Lynn bunch. Lynn realized from thei. experienee of a week ago, that the Columbus ball team was no soft snap and came load ed for the county seat beys. Nix, of Handersonville, was in the box for the Lynn crowd and did effective work, keeping the county seat's heavy hitters on their watch to hit his curves. For Col mbus, F. Williams was in the box and had the boys givn him any support at all, the game would have had an entirely dif ferent ending, for he was in fine pitching shape and his speed and control was most effective. It was a close game until the last when some ef the Columbus boys lost their heads and played "rotten ball" which gave the vic tory to the Knitters. The games between Lynn and Columbus are even, each team having won one game the third and championship game is to be played next Saturday, Sept. 4, on the Columbus ground. A large crowd was in attend ance last Saturday, and as next Saturday's game is the champion ship game, a much larger crowd is expected. Let every one come out to see the boys battle for the4 pennant and encourage their f av- . onto team. Work on the Court Boose. The men are now busy at work on the court house and yard. The guttering is being placed on by Contractor W A. Milster; of Spartanburg, S.XT. The lay ing of the terra cotta tiling is under the supervision of William Mays. After this work is com pleted, the square is to bo broken up and planted ii j grass. This is a much needed step and will not only speak well for the county, but add much to the appearance of the town. notice. M. A.
