During the past year we have been highly blessed, No great calamities of flood or tempest or epidemic sickness have befallen us. We have lived in quietness undisturbed by war or rumors of war. Peace and tha plently of bounteous crops and of great in dustrial production animate a cheerful and resolute people to the renewed energies and behteficent industry and material and moral progess.lt is altogeth er fitting that we should humbly and gratefully acknowledge the Divine source of these blessings. "Therefore, I appoint Thursday the twenty-fifth dav of Novem ber, as the day of general thanks giving. Let citizens lay aside their usual vocations, to repair to their churches and unite in appropriate service and thanks to Almighty God. (Signed) "WILLIAM H. TAF?." Spartanburg Herald. Landrum, Nov-16. The quart erly conference of the Methodist church met with the Landrum church Saturday and Sunday. The conference was well attend ed and Dr. M- L. Carlisle, the presiding elder, preached two excellent'sermons. Dr. Carlisle is well known here and Landram people are always delighted to have him preach. When it was learnad that the Landrum Jyeeum course would have its firs' attraction on Sat urday night a great deal of re gret was heard as that was con sidered an unfavorable night but now all are glad of it, for Dr. H. W. Sears, the lecturer booked, was good to the people and gave them not only a lecture on Saturday nigin. but two free of charge on Sunday at the Bap tist church. His equal as a pub lic speaker has never been heard, perhaps, in Landrum, and his genial good nature of the plat form quite won the hearts of the people here. His lectures were all strong and calculated to do much good, and we hope Dr. Sears may come back to Land rum many more times.
