These are well known to all our readers. We do wish, however, to set forth the intentions of the present publishers in connection with the continuance of this newspaper. The Johnstonian-Sun will still be published every Thursday. Such is our wish and you may rest assured that we shall make every ef fort to insure this fact The only li mitation will be that of human en durance and ability. In this step we are greatly encouraged by the ex pressions of opinion coming to us from many of the community's forward-thinking citizens. It will be our principal aim to see to it that Selma and surrounding areas are given first a newspaper containing items, names and places purely of local interest. We believe that this is what the people want. We shall include matters of state, nation al and even of international scope only as they relate themselves to cur rent situations. We repeat, The Johnstonian-Sun is first, last and always a community newspaper. It will re main so. The paper will be maintained as being politically independent; we are not allied with any party, faction or group. Those having propaganda political or other wise, to disseminate are referred to our advertising de partment where rates and assistance may be obtained. We shall attempt a liberal and unbiased editorial policy, feeling free to condemn or commend as circumstances warrant. Our posi- , tion on any question will always oe that which is deemed to be in the shall straddle no issue at any time. But we will lend our support vigor ously to the Right as we see it. The columns of this paper will al ways be open to all citizens having worthy opinions to be aired in con nection with matters in the public in terest. ,'. As we take our place in the busi ness and professional life of our home community we do so with faith in ourselves and a lasting sense of pride in the many expressions of good-will that have come to us as we prepare to assume our responsibilities in the newspaper field which, we believe, is one of great public value. At the same time we are plainly indicating our faith in our Town and its people. This is our pledge to our own com- Canning, Preserving and Pickling Varie ties are now ripe and ready anytime. OF PUBLIC INTEREST -This newspaper believes that one of its prime functions is the airing of questons calculated to be in the pubic interest. It would like to re ceive a number of letters each week dealing with matters affecting Selma and vicinity. There are, from time to time, many points which would bear intelligent discussion on the part of our citizens and The Johnstonian invites such cor respondence. In fact, it hopes to be able to publish the first of such let ters beginning with next week's is sue. We shall afford equal space to any worthy subject. Of course, all letters should be confined to proper subjects; we are not interested in personalities nor petty bickerings. And those having any sort of propaganda, political or otherwise, to be disseminated should consult our advertising department. Please be sure to sign your letter; it is not necessary that ; the writers name be published, but it must be on file in our office. All unsigned letters will be immedately consigned to the wastebasket where they belong. MANY ITEMS OMITTED THIS WEEK FOR LACK OF SPACE WILL APPEAR LATER. TWO EXPERIENCED WAIT- resses wanted at once.
