Former Warsaw Resident Succumbs Alfred Peyton Cooper, 66 formerly of Warsaw died Thursday morning in the Veteran Hospital at Fayette ville after a lingering illness. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 4:00 O'clock in the Chapel of Quinn McGowen Fun eral Home in Warsaw, Burial fol lowed in- the Mt. Olive Cemetery at 1 Mt. Olive. He is survived by his wife, the former Estelle Williams. Five bro thers H. P. Cooper of Clemson, S. C? M. L. Of Coushatth, La.. T. W. and Faye Cooper both of Columbia, S. C. and W. B. Blythwood, S. Mrs. William Costin was high sco rer last Thursday evening when Mrs. Nathan Costin entertained the ? members of her bridge chib at 8:00 in her home on Pollock Street. Mrs M. L. Kinlaw won traveling and consolation was awarded to Mrs. E. C. Wray. Other members playing were Mesdames, Bill Grice, J. B. Herring, Jr.', James Taylor, Thur mon Gastor, and Willie Dorman. Lovely arrangements of roses predominated in the home. Stroud, president, opened the meeting afterwhlch the group sang, "Old North State". Mrs. C. M. Out law gave the devotion. The following reports were given by various leaders Safety- - Mrs. Stroud; Health, Mrs. J. C. Pridgen Mrs. Mae Spicer, home demon stration agent, gave a demonstra tion on "Freezing Fruits and Vege tables'. The meeting was closed with the "Club Collect". Mrs. Kornegay served strawberry shortcake, nuts, and coffee. Seniors Entertained Seniors of the James Kenan Sch ool were honored Monday night of last week with a party in the War saw Roller Rink given by several of the parents of the student body. They enjoyed dancing and skat ing. Refreshments of ham biscuits, chicken salad sandwiches, cream cheese sandwiches rolled up and tied with a ribbon representing a diploma, cupcakes, nuts and punch were served buffet from a banquet table covered with a white cloth. Red roses encircled the edge of the table and a lovely arrangemet of roses rested in the center A green and white, which are the class colors, motif was carried out. Approximately 100 attended. Daughters Honored Last Friday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Dorman entertained their two little daughters with a birthday party at their home near Warsaw. Misses Lica and Tama Dorman presented their little guests upon arrival with balloons and bath room sets to the girls and balloons and airplanes to the little boys whi ch they all enjoyed playing with until Mrs. Dorman served them Iprthday cake, ice cream, potato chips, and kool ade. Helping them celebrate were Freddie and Terry McLaurin, Ken and Andy Kinlaw, Faye and Susan Grice, Dawn Gaster, Arleen Mc Dariles, Renee and Mac McCullen and Ronda Autry and their grand mother, Mrs. A. F. Lee of Erwin. They were celebrating their 3rd and 7st birthday. Mrs,VVesf Luncheon Hostess Mrs. Walter P. West held her bridge luncheon last Thursday in her home near Warsaw. The lunch eon was served at 1:00 p. m. Johnson, who received a bridge table covered and napkins for club-high, and Douglass Town send who received petunia plants for consolation award. Unity WS of CS Met The Women's Society of Christian Service of the Unity Methodist Chu rch met Monday night of last week at the church for their regular mon thly meeting. Mrs. J. C. Stroud, president, pre sided. Rev. J. P. Pegg gave the opening prayer and Mrs. Stroud presented the devotion. A panel discussion on "What to Tell our Children about Money", followed with Rev. The meeting opened with a song followed by the 'Bible Meditation and Calendar Prayer' led by Mrs. D. E. Parkerson. I The program was centered a round the observance of the 75th. Anniversary of the W. M. U. and the 50th Anniversary of the G. A.'s. There was an attractive and inter I esting display depicting the various ? activities of the outstanding leaders I in both organizations. Announce Engagement Miss Edna Faye Powell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Powell of Warsaw, who announce her engagement to Gary Donell Boone, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Boone of Clinton. A June 2 wedding is planned. Attend Music Convention The North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs had its 47th Annual Junior Convention May lOth-llth at the Vance Motor Hotel in States ville. Students from the Warsaw Junior Music Club performing on the convention program were: Car olyn Gresham of Warsaw; Nancy Ward of Rose Hill; and Suzanne Southerland of Chinquapin. Attending the convention were: Jane Blackmore, Becky Phillips.
