I Presbyterian Circles Mrs. Lloyd Ferrell presided when Circle No. 1 of the Women of. Grove Presbyterian Church met on Monday afternoon at 3:00 with Mrs. N. B. Boney. The moderator of the Bible Study was Mrs. T. P. Quinn' assisted by Mesdames L. Souther land, G. V. Gooding, G. S. Hodges and Lloyd Ferrell. The monthly Emphasis was discussed by Mrs. Ralph Barwick. Ten ladies were present. The hostess served peach ice cream and angel food cake dur ing the social hour. Circle No. 2 met on Monday at 8 o'clock with Mrs. W. E. Craft. The Bible study from Matthew was led by Mrs. Billy Shephens. The monthly emphasis was presented by Miss Margaret 'Williams who pre sided in the absence of the Circle Chairman. Following the Benedic tion, the hostess served assorted cookies and tea. B i?_i DaprisT circles The Cora Stokes Circle met on Monday afternoon with Mrs. Ellis Vestal as hostess. Mrs. Lauren Sharpe gave the program on Lead ership training. A social hour fol lowed the close of the meeting. The Ella Cooper Circle met on Monday evening with Mrs. Mildred Brewer Circle chairman, Mrs, Amos Brinson presided over the business session. Mrs. Willard Brinson, assisted by Mrs. Jack Brinson, Mrs. Francis Oakley and Mrs. I. R. Caison pre sented the program on Leadership training. During the social hour, the hos tess served peach pie ice cream and hot pound cake to the ten mem bers present. Sunday School Picnic About 60 men, women and child ren of the three churches in the Kenansville Community enjoyed their annual. Union Sunday School Picnic at White Lake last Wednes day afternoon. They left the local churches about 1:30 and after a swim and boat ride around the lake enjoyed supper about 5:30. The oc casion was very pleasant regard less of the chilly weather. Eastern Star Met Mrs. Florence Brown Worthy Ma tron assisted by Colon Holland. Worthy Patron prodded when. Ken ansville Chapter No. 215, Order of the Eastern Star met on last Toes day night In the Chapter Room. After the Ritualistic Opening and Flag Ceremony a short business session was held. The Budget Com mittee submitted its report after which the "Landmarks" of the Or der were discussed by the Worthy Patron. Prior to adjournament the Worthy Matron announced that all Past Matrons of the local chapter would be honored at the next stated meeting which is scheduled for July the 23rd. Mrs. McGowan Hostess T&C Club Mrs. E. S. McGowan was hostess to the Town and Country Bridge Club on Tuesday night at 7:45 with the following additional guests; Mesdames D. S. Williamson, N. B. Boney and Marion Griffin also Miss Mary Lee Sykes. Club members high score prize was captured by Mrs. E. C. Tyndall while Miss Mary Lee Sykes was the lucky one among the visitors. After several interesting progressions the hostess assisted by Mrs. Thelma Taylor served a Sweet Course to her guests. Birthday Party For Frankie Frankie Qumn was six years old on July 10. His mother, Mrs. Joseph E. Quinn, honored him on that oc casion with a birthday party, last Wednesday afternoon. After playing many outdoor games the group was invited into the dining room for re freshments consisting of birthday cake topped with blue candles. This was in the shape of a Lamb. It was served with ice cream and soft drinks. Mrs. Quinn was assisted in entertaining the 15 present by' her other son, Joey and nephew, Jackie Nethercutt. Party Honors Mrs. Martin It was a get-aquainted party at the C. B. Guthrie house on Saturday evening when they entertained with a buffet dinner honoring their niece, Mrs. Earl Penny Martin and son, David, of Barfcsdale A. F. B., La., and their nephew, Mr. and Mrs. William Noble Martin, Jr., and sons, Billy and Teddy of Reidsville. Other guests were, Mrs. A. A. Kawer, Jr., of New Bern; Mr. and. Mrs. J. B. Penny of Hose Hill; Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Penny, Jenny and Melinda of Wallace; Miss Caroline Hamrick and Mrs. Alda McCure of Boiling Springs. Colorful zinias were used throug hout the house lending their beauty for the occasion. Pine Forest 4-H The Pine Forest 4-H Club of Dob son's Chapel met Friday night, July 12, in the home of Mrs. Polly Cos tin. Roy Lee Vestal, President, pre sided. 8 members were present. Dr. Powers, from the Health De partment was guest speaker. He gave an interesting talk on "Safety in the Home", with the general thought; "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.' At the close of the meeting, re freshments were served by Mrs. Costin. Mrs. Penney Club Hostess Mrs. George Penney entertained her bridge club last Tuesday even ing with Mrs. Phil Kretsch and Mrs. Thelma Taylor as visitors. Others playing were, Mrs. Lucille Stokes, Mrs. Mattie Sadler, Mrs. J. R. Grady, Mrs. Louise Mitchell, Mrs. J. B. Wallace and Mrs. C. B Guthrie. After several progressions, the hostess served congealed salad, ham biscuits, potato chips, fruit cake and coffee. ?When scores were compiled, Mrs. uraay won ciud nigh score, Mrs. J. O. Stokes, second high and Mrs. Taylor was remembered with visi tors high. Each guest was given a cartoon of salad tomatoes, grown by Mr. Penney.
